Im having a hard time with the fact that you can't hang anything on the walls? I've never had that rule with a rental. I think I would get rid of either the single or the love seat because there is not enough room for all three. The walls would really benefit with some artwork and drapes... I agree with above comment that the coffee table is too dark and doesn't stand out from the dark brown sofas.

@Audra - she CAN hang anything on the walls but isn't sure of the scale since the ceiling is so high.

I would get some panels on those bare skinny windows. Plain linen in a warm neutral color.

Part of the problem here is that the fireplace is out of scale with the seating, so I exchanged one of your pieces for two smaller chairs. I made sure they had legs to help lighten the room.

The wood end table and coffee table are a medium to light tone wood. The coffee table is reclaimed wood for Hubby's rustic side.

Sell the torchiere lamp with the coffee table. Replace with just about anything else: a tripod lamp or an arc lamp as I show here.

I picked up the blue in the canvas art in the pillows and repeated the yellow in the gallery wall.

Christine, I shudder when I read you "almost bought these tables." The tables actually aren't bad, but stop thinking in plurals. That's how you got a room full of matching furniture. Please notice in the inspiration room you posted above that Hubby likes, everything is leather and coordinates with everything else, but absolutely nothing matches.

A room should look curated, not like you bought out the furniture store.

I could see maybe one big square coffee table as you’ve made a square with the seating. The fireplace needs more heft, I wonder if you could put a shelf on top as if it were a mantle? No more brown. You need some different textures and colours, you can still keep it soft. It is interesting you haved honed in on some very monochromatic inspiration pics.

These pieces are more like beds than sofas and chairs. Maybe what your husband needs is a lounge chair. He looks like it might be a struggle for him to get up from that sofa; a person can't even sit straight with their feet on the floor and their back supported because the seats are just too deep for normal size people to sit up in. I think returning them is your best option. Admit they aren't working and start again.

Agree that the seating does look too deep to easily get up from unless you have additional pillows behind your back.

my husband is disabled he was in a terrible accident in 2017 and his legs were crushed that's why I have this big soft furniture. it alleviates pain stiff rigid Furniture just doesn't work for him right now

my husband's also a big man who would not fit in the colorful chairs in some of these sketches

If you keep the existing furniture I’d still make sure and add color. Pillows and art. Blues, brighter rust reds, and creams are a few colors that work with brown and help liven everything. I’d pick one and repeat the color. Since you already have the rug you should probably repeat that color too. I think accent colors look best when they’re repeated a few times in large, medium, and small doses to a room.

No necessarily this fabric but this is the red color I was talking about.

I would not add artificial rock up the wall. Focus on getting curtains, art, pillows, tables, accessories. It will also compete with the brick in a negative way.

How about a nice recliner for your husband. Sorry to hear about his accident.

Sorry about the accident and absolutely furniture has to be comfortable for the needs of an individual. I had some furniture custom made and I sat in the upholsterers workroom to test out seat heights; depths; height of back as well as how I wanted the upholstered pieces to "feel" in terms of testing various types of cushions and fillings.

If your husband finds that big chair comfortable then that is what is most important. However, many people with accessibility issues find that recliners are actually more comfortable than soft large chairs because they are easier to get out of and also the integrated foot rest is more comfortable and accessible than a separate ottoman.

thank you everyone in regards to my husband's accident. this house that we're living in now is 3800 square feet it also has a huge Den living room and dining room. the den has two large recliners in there and their push button to lower and raise your body they're really nice

I'm very well aware of disabilities and their consequences for daily living. Make sure he has a comfortable chair in this room too. However, you said he wanted the chair and footstool, so that would be the keeper, and the rest should probably go back to the store.

Grover is GREAT!!. Started with not all the facts-made some nice changes. Then, updated on the disability situation, popped in a great looking solution. I wish Grover would come to my house!!

eels, totally agree about Grover. IMO she is the best. I sure hope that when we downsize in a couple of years, she will be willing to help me. I really respect her opinions.

I really like the rust colored chair and that new coral color of the year starting to grow on me also. however I'm not fond of yellow at all

The brown furniture is the contemporary color but to accommodate both your husbands and your taste I would say to put an acrylic coffee table or glass. that would add a little more of a modern touch to the room. if you could still the change the area rug I would change it to something more modern its a little traditional looking.

I put it there but the glare from the windows , the windows at the very top , cast light on it that distorts the picture

That art really belongs over the mantel. If the light is too strong, it means you need better window coverings. If you do hang it on that wall, hang it just about where you have it propped, maybe one or two inches above the chairs.

Do I see a fake plant peeking out from the entertainment center? It doesn't belong in your new stylish room.

Add maybe one red pillow on the couch, something pretty plain so it doesn't compete with the art.

If the sun is that strong, anything you put over the mantel is going to take a beating. Something non-reflective will be best.

Must be me, it looks off, I think the painting will look better over the mantel.

If you cannot put up blinds on the top windows, you may be able to use the paper blinds (temporary blinds) they can be cut to size easily. They last a long time. They are only a few dollars and may be the fix you are looking for.

it took a while but now I'm just going to struggle with accessories for the room I like the idea of the red pillows, but over the fireplace , that's going to be tricky

maybe the sun isn't that strong but it does come in all day and it just puts a glare on the painting which I don't care for.

In my opinion, an area rug would be a great way to bring in some color to the room.

Get shades for the upper windows.
