It depends on the skill of the tile installer.

I don’t know the skill of the tiler bc my kitchen designer recommended him knowing what I wanted. I guess I need to send him a close up picture and ask.

Ask him for pictures of his work. A lot will also depend on what kind of tile you use and how fragile it is. If the tile resting against the backsplash is what you intend to use, you're throwing a traditional look with warm colors up against a modern look with cool colors. You may want to get another designer if she/he picked the tile.

Yikes now I’m worried! I really like the tear tile and the other is a gray. I just had the cabinets painted SW Snowbound and the countertop is Cambria Brittanica. The walls will be painted SW Agreeable Gray.
What doesn’t match?

The style of the wavy tile doesn't agree with the other things in the room (I can't be sure about the color). I think doing the under-cabinet area with the gray subway is all you need and the modern stuff up top would be weird.

Your kitchen looks great. Paint above the hood is fine!

Have a discussion with the tiler. They have to take in account the size of the tile, is it rectified? The conditions of your walls (waviness) placement of tile to get the most out of the pattern and how much waste. Only the installer can tell you. FYI pick a back up tile just in case your selection will not work.

I really wanted to update the kitchen bc when we bought it a few months ago it had the Tuscan look of which I was not a fan. It’s a north facing room so I wanted to make it light and bright with a wow factor. I have looked at so many tiles and keep coming back to this one. It has grays and whites so it blends well with the cabinets and future paint. I’ve looked at water jet patterns and tile with movement (our house is on a lake). I wanted a clean modern look. Previous kitchen and now a work in progress.
Any suggestions?

I share with the above, it’s a bathroom tile. I also agree just use the other tile as your backsplash and stop under the range.

I know we should have had the backsplash taken out first but there was a miscommunication with the kitchen store. We thought they handled the demo but they don’t do backsplashes so I had to schedule that after the countertop and painters came bc they were already scheduled. I should also say that we live in VA and the new house is in NC so we’ve been trying to get this done long distance and working full time. After the fiasco that happened this passed week (painters painted my mbr cherry cabinets white) we will not allow access to our house when we aren’t there.
I’m thinking you all are correct and nix the wavy tile. Maybe I can find something as a focal point to put in a square similar to what is there.

Well you’ve already improved that kitchen by 1000%! Sorry for the setbacks. Take a deep breath. the subway looks nice to me. Just paint above the hood. Keep it simple, then have fun with accessories. Good luck :-)

I thought you were trying to match the existing backsplash with new tile. If the French Tuscan backsplash is coming out, your tile combinations are good. If your installer can't cut around that tile, see if you can get a trim carpenter to remove the short piece of molding that kill into the wall above the hood and then trim it an put it back after the tile goes in or remove the existing crown and get new crown molding to install after the tile goes in. That would be preferable to the tile contractor trying to cut a tile to fit.

When I tiled my backsplash, I used a Dremel too to cut out a sliver of the trim and installed the tile behind it.

I like the waves tile, it’s not your typical kitchen tile. Go with what you like! If this is your forever home.
Subway tile can work just try different layouts with it. A vertical look? Stacked? Staggered? Herringbone?

The kitchen is going good! Maybe you can use that cool wavy tile in your white cherry MBR? (Can't believe they did that...argh!)

Going to pick up the tile tomorrow and will play with the arrangement. I’m still in love with the wavy tile but will just put it under the hood. That will save me the trouble of dealing with the crown molding issue.

Option if I may - the chimney should be stainless, add sheet stainless to face and sides of chimney this may carry well for the appliances are all stainless. If this is too cold for you I would paint the box chimney white with applied molding to create a wood painted blend to cabinetry That chmney square jutting out a different finish is a bit much - enjoy your new space !

Are you talking about that area above the stainless fume hood?
I should paint that the same color as the cabinets?

Why cut the tile? Carefully remove the small pieces of crown molding, lay the tile, and cut the molding to fit.
