Can disease cause a mutation?

I lost most of my hosta to Rhizoctonia Root Rot. The county agent said I was likely to lose them all, that there was really not a good chemical to effectively treat it. He said some might be not be susceptible. About 10% survived. I've had no losses since the beginning of 2017.


So the questions about mutation:


Case #1: Of the ones that survived is a pot labeled "birchwood Parky's gold", but it no longer looked like that plant last summer. I thought I messed up the sticks. I just repotted it and it had two sticks in it, one that was buried. It looks like the same plant, but has lost it's gold. It's not up yet enough to tell what I will get this year, but is it possible that mutated?


Case #2: Another that survived was Krossa Regal. It's leaves looked a little gnarly. Could that be mutation?


Two So Sweets, Irish Luck, bridegroom, Blue Angel, Halcyon and a Honeybells survived. They look normal.
