To my knowledge, Ivory Halo is the smallest growing of the variegated forms. You can find dwarf red twig dogwood (Cornus sericea 'Kelseyi') but they lack variegation.

FWIW, it is only newer growth that retains the intense stem color so pruning back or stooling is a suggested practice for the best color effect.

imo .. woody plants will.. sooner or later... be damaged by snow ... usually a year or two after you declare they are just perfect ...

no plant stops at some magical height ... so maintenance pruning will probably always be required ... but crikey.... im with you on not having to do it several times per year ...

but then.. that sounds more like a haircut or shearing ... there are other ways to prune ... to reduce size ... other than that method ...

The euonymus get pruned to a "natural" shape but I don't like that they are always putting up the shoots, so I cut those back several times in summer. I think you are right, Ken, any shrub will get damaged with enough snow piled on it! Thank you for your input.

There are shrubs that you can plant where snow load is an issue because they will resprout quickly from being pruned to the ground. In the area of my house where snow lands from shoveling and in years we have to rake the roof to reduce weight, we have a summer-blooming spirea and Annabelle Hydrangea arborescens. Both are fine if I cut them off at 6” stubs as soon as the soil is visible since they regrow to their normal size from the roots within a few weeks and will bloom that summer. I am sure that there are other suckering shrubs that will do the same such as the smaller red-twigged dogwood that GG48 mentioned.
