Regular swing doors can take up more space than desired to swing the door leaf open. Bi-fold doors can be clunky to operate. Bi-pass doors only allow half the closet to be accessible at a time. Accordion doors can be clunky and may be too groovy for your decor. Curtains may not be appropriate for your decor.

Just one person’s anecdote, but I have six sets of solid wood bifold doors original to our 1994 build. With the exception of one screw I tighten yearly, none have had issues. Most are opened multiple times daily. I might just be lucky with doors...pocket doors haven’t had issues either.

Bifold doors may be the best solution for your need, but you need to find a good quality set of hardware to mount them. Most bifold doors are off-the-shelf hollow core doors that use basic low quality hardware, and it doesn't hold up that well to frequent use. If you buy solid wood doors and high quality mounting hardware I think they would work much better.

after a lot of searching, I found what I thought was a good pick for bi-fold doors. (for my laundry closet. no room for reg. doors) Home Depot had solid oak bi-fold doors. Apparently they are out of stock. right now I've got those hollow louvered doors and they are crap. thinking I may have to have someone make something because I can't find any suitable replacements.

I like the fact that bifold doors allow access to the whole closet at one time whereas sliding only one side at a time I think we need to see the closet areas a hinged single door is IMO the worst since no part of the closet is accessible.

Hmmm? One must open the door to access the closet interior. And for wide closets, there are ...wait for it...double or triple doors! Lots of access once the doors are...open!

And then...there are walk-in closets...accessed through a hinged door or double doors!
