heating/cooling for one room

We are considering one of those units for a single room that heats and cools that has the unit outside. Something like this. Any thoughts or advice. This is for a bedroom

Is there a window you can use for a RAC that is a heat pump model? I have one in my BR and it allows me to turn off my home's central heat pump over night for great savings. Why heat/cool my whole house when I am asleep in one room, right? Mine is an 8000 Btu Frigidaire model with remote.

Get a Ductless Mini split systems.

    Price start from $599

    1. They Offer Highly Flexible Solutions

    2. They Save You Money

    3. They Improve Indoor Air Quality – Happy Breathing!

    4. They Are Quick and Easy to Install

    5. Ductless Air Conditioning Lowers Your Carbon Footprint

    Ductless Systems Lower Utility Bills.

Mini-split systems cost more than most conventional systems, but they pay for themselves over time through energy savings. You’ll never have to repair energy-wasting leaks in ductwork, and you can use zoning to avoid heating or cooling unoccupied rooms. Just use a separate thermostat for each indoor unit, and control them all with a central programmable thermostat.

    Ductless Systems Operate Quietly.

Leaks or debris in ductwork can cause whistling or banging sounds, and you might even hear squeaking or scurrying if pests have infested your ducts. After installing a mini-split system, a professional will either remove your ductwork or seal all your air registers. That way, you won’t have to worry about noisy leaks, debris or pests.

    Ductless Systems Improve Comfort.

Ductwork can spread contaminants like dust, dirt and pet dander through your home, especially if you forget to change your air filter or have a leak. A ductless system will improve your indoor air quality, preventing allergy symptoms, headaches and other health problems like asthma.

What is the problem you are having? Is the rest of the house adequately heated and cooled and just this one room needs "more"? If so, you might just need the ductwork dampers adjusted.

Otherwise, a small unit like that (or even a window unit) would work. Just don't oversize it or you will have a cold, clammy bedroom. As a (very!) rough guideline, 12,000 BTU per 600 sq ft.

Problem with room. 1. Over the garage. 2. Door to balcony. 3. Windows are probably crappy. 4. No houses across street do in the winter cold blows unbroken again above said windows/door. 5. Heat in summer from beating sunshine on above said windows.

We have tried rebalancing the vents. We have weatherstripped the windows.

The room is cold in winter and hot in summer.

We are using a space heater in the winter. We could use a portable air conditioner. But because we have the windows and the balcony i thought maybe I could put the exterior portion on the balcony.

Not sure what the split ductless is. Is that for the whole house or is that what I’m talking about.

You could use a window A/C unit. Or consider a ductless minisplit (google it). It can do both heating and cooling of a single room. It has a wall or ceiling unit inside, and a condenser outside. As others have mentioned, it is energy efficient. I recently installed Mitsubishi units to heat and cool just my living room and bedroom.
