Kind of a stupid question, but when are they supposed to bloom? I have early, early crocus in the lawn, but also a later kind that I don't think are up yet. I can check tomorrow. They bloom with the early tulips.

Mad_gallica, I actually don't know exactly when they are supposed to bloom. I ordered them from the Brent & Becky's catalog, which said "early spring."

Babs, I know that some of my tulips have gotten eaten--have seen the unearthed bulbs--and was expecting that as I know they are squirrel candy. I didn't know that crocuses are similarly tasty. I'd be surprised if they got ALL of them, though! Fingers crossed.

Ok, I went outside and looked at the crocus.

I think they are Blue Pearls. I ordered them years ago from VanEngelen or Scheepers who described them as 'large flowered crocus'. Right now, they are maybe a half inch high, and look almost exactly like lawn grass. Because they bloom later, I have them in a bed of plumbago, so they are almost findable. Most of them seem to be buried under oak leaves. They aren't nearly as advanced as the daffodils, though they will bloom earlier.

I thought I had pictures of them blooming, but I can't find anything in IPhoto.

I see a few more bits of grassy foliage now. Not nearly as much as I would have expected for late March. I ought to have a better sense after the warm weekend. I'll update with a photo if anything ever blooms!

That grassy foliage I thought I saw was something else, but four or five crocuses have bloomed in the last week, and foliage for a few more is poking through. I'm still not sure what happened to the 40 others! Strangely, the ones that bloomed first are in an area that was excavated and trampled by construction workers recently.

My clump of remaining crocus are at the edge of what was a gravel path. I think it is too difficult digging for the voles. Perhaps the excavation and tromping made this particular area less friendly to burrowing critters as well.
