Regarding the Lamium, stick to the botanical name if you research this plant. Henbit is usually used for Lamium amplexicaule, a different plant. There's a lot of confusion if you google the common names.

They are both annual weeds and closely related so I'm not sure common names make a big difference......henbit versus red henbit. Just pull 'em out!

Curiously, in my part of the world henbit is actually quite rare. In fact I don't recall ever seeing it.

I'm not sure nomenclature even comes into play with common names :-) They are afterall just nicknames or vernacular usage and can vary widely just by region.

Both henbits are all over the place around here!! It is a very unusual spring not to have either or both pop up.

I was referring to the botanical nomenclature not common names. I don't care what vernacular people use. But I think it's useful for the OP to learn the botanical names so s/he can distinguish the two plants when looking at images or researching.

I went out to see if I could get a photo, but could not find a good specimen, though it was all over a few weeks earlier. But below is a photo from the web. I first confused the Lamium purpureum with it, but then noticed that the leaves were quite different. I wonder, is Lamium purpureum also edible?
