Yes you can, just make sure that they use the same voltage; sometimes LEDs are slightly bigger, make sure they would fit (in case the heads have a cap/cover).

I did that at a local art gallery to replace all the halogen bulbs with LEDs.

Retro Steam Works: The Philadelphia Museum of Art has just announced that they are going to switch to all LED, now that they are better for color rendering than in the past and are available in more socket types.

Huge museum; 11,000 bulbs of various types. It will take a while.

They are going through a major interior expansion by architect Frank Gehry, and I think they want the upgraded lighting throughout so that it all blends better (and saves a boatload of money).

We have replaced all of our halogens with LEDs we have quite a few different fixtures with different bulbs very easy to find now.I have not had an issue with size BTW

The Cal Lighting HT-238 track head requires a 50w PAR30 Bulb. There are LED versions of this bulb sold at (for example), 1000bulbs.com. Be sure to select an LED bulb that is the proper length, brightness (lumens) and color temperature.

I agree Tatts, most art galleries and museums I've been have made the switch to LEDs.

This is another art gallery where we made the switch to all LED bulbs, these are PAR30 the electric bill went way down with this change.

The size issue I mentioned is only in some cases where some brands of PAR16 (or MR16) bulbs are slightly taller than their halogen counterparts and might not fit track heads that use a lid/cap; but there are some brands that fit perfectly even with lids/caps.
