Looks to me like there used to be two rooms and this is the chimney for two gas hearths (the two circles on it). We had a similar placement, be it a huge lump of concrete.

That is exactly what I thought when I took a closer look at it. I'd almost bet money on it!

Chimney stack for old heating system, it was meant as a space saver and would heat 2 rooms or apartments. best use would be to have a gas fireplace cover them. My concern is I see issues with the brick, should have it inspected by a chimney masson.
