How do you use this space? Looks "lived in" with the seating, etc, but I don't see a TV. I do see what looks like a desk. Is that a throw on the one chair or a jacket?

Some steps to try:

Pick up all the decorative items, including the faux plants, and put them on the dining table to sort through. Pick three items you like to display now, put the rest away for a few months, rotate them seasonally. Less is more. The photos can be hung on a wall- if you want higher dramatic impact, get them enlarged to 11 by 14 inch or larger, then use ready-made frames with mats.

Move the diagonal rug so that it is lined up neatly next to the other rug, as if they were a single rug twice the size.

Put the black floor cushion in another room.

Put one occasional chair where the old black cushion was. Put the other on the rug next to the sofa, more or less where it is now. If it's in the way, look around for another place in a different room.

Move the small table that's behind the floor cushion next to the sofa where the floor lamp is. Put a new table lamp on it when you are ready.

Look around your house for some large colorful artwork or a decorative mirror you can hang over the console table. It should be something you love.

Do you have a wood box or a tray for remote controls and other useful things that go on a coffee table?

Could you please take a photo straight on, showing each wall completely? I'm confused about where the tv and fireplace are, where the doorways are, and the sectional, too,

As was mentioned earlier, I would remove all of the lamps, vases/flowers, small tables, and other knick knacks before you start to arrange the furniture.

Why are there overlapping rugs? It appears that the curtains are not functioning properly. Grommet top panels are easier to open and hang better. It appears that you will need four panels in order to have enough fullness.

Remove all unnecessary items: papers, broom, cups, vacuum cleaner, etc. Place a decorative tray under the entry table to be used as a shoe holder. Then add back the furniture minus the black thing on the floor. I would remove the small table( with picture frames) by the chair. Shop your house in order to see if you have something more substantial.

Make some changes and then come back with new pics.

So this is one large room that you have two seating areas in? One side that is used for tv viewing.And the other seating and office space?

do you use all 7 lamps?

I think I would address the lighting issues and the fireplace first. Remove the bookcase from the hearth, hang the TV lower and hide the cables.

i think new photos with as clear a room as possible would make it easier for the pros to show how to proceed.

Must jump in here and see how things will progress. Laural you have some nice things and they just need a bit of tweeking. Could you move the smaller of the 2 rugs to the door, so

visitors step on to it when they come in.

Remove all the fake flowers out of the jugs, they will look better empty. Getting the 3 is a good move. Decorate in odd numbers, 1, 3 5.

I can see the sectional, could you post another pic.

Move the other rug so the feet of the sofa are on the edge of rug.

Could you move the black low chair to another room.

Remove flowers out of vase at the front door. Do you have a mirror you could

hang there.
