Choose your dining room rug first, and then use a coordinating runner in the kitchen on the sink side. I don't think you would want a full rug in the kitchen, because you would be standing on the edges or floor when at the countertops.

I agree, I like the blue rug, but a runner makes more sense than a full sized rug.

Yeah I’m struggling with what size runner because the space between the two sides is really wide so I thought an area rug? Right now we have a small rug by sink but it’s too small for space.

I added photos of the space. Excuse the mess and we are in the process of finishing up the remodel so house isn’t furnished completely nor are all the finishing touches complete. I added a pic of a similar look though one wall doesn’t open to another area.

I too would get the dinning roo rug first. You may not even want one in the kitchen after the dinning area has one.

For the size of the kitchen runner - look for something that starts near the wall where your small one is currently, and ends when you get to the stove. That will protect the floor around the sink and dishwasher area, which is all you need.

Why are you looking for a rug for the kitchen? Aesthetics? Easier standing? Protect floors from something? And answer to the purpose will affect the size choice.
