Acanthus I believe.

Acanthus mollis, aka bear's breeches or oakleaf acanthus. A herbaceous perennial rather than a shrub. And yes, it does very well in moist shade.....sometimes too well!

Spreads from any little bit of root.

It took me about three years to eradicate it. Still, it does have it's uses. I wanted to be rid of it in part because snails and earwigs seem to come from near and far to visit this plant.

Only fit for a 'wild' garden on acreage.

Thank you all for your help! The plant I'm seeing is definitely Acanthas. We certainly don't have "acreage" so might not be appropriate for our yard. I will have to follow up with our local Nursery. Appreciate all the info!

The version with the particular leaf shown on this thread is differentiated from typical Acanthus mollis using the name Latifolius.
