No moles, but plenty of voles in my part of Colorado, which are similar in their habits. The years where we have more snow cover are the worst, as they tunnel under the snow, destroying grass roots and gnawing the cherry trees to pieces. The only way I've found to deal with them is to A) mostly use plants they don't like B) use raised beds with hardware cloth fencing, and C) (worst case scenario) live trap 'em and re-locate. Oh, and then there's option D) Wait. Eventually enough critters will attract the notice of the local predator population, which will in turn bring balance to the ecosystem. A pair of Great Horned Owls and a Cooper's Hawk made short work of all my vole problems last year. Thanks, guys!

Thanks Laura! Since I posted my question I was informed that my issue is with pocket gophers! So...I’m thinking the problem is similar to having voles in the yard. The gophers just eat more!

Yep, it’s such a relief to have good snow cover, and can be such a surprise when the snow melts. We have a good predator population, but I’m not willing to wait.
