windymess..in past years (seems like every year lol) I would cover my pips/new leaves with leaf litter or compost when we had a spring freeze..I felt like this helped..but not everyone has a supply of leaf litter and compost like I do..I hold off clearing the debris for just this reason..

If you're getting the same storm that has been rolling through here, it's significant. It's good to get rain, but wind, heavy snow, and hail have come with it. I'd cover them if you can. Yours are unfurled enough to be damaged.

I have heavy clay pots that I can invert over some - like those that are up as much as in my pics above. Would it be bad to cover the lower ones with plastic sheeting- like the lightweight ”drop cloth” plastic available at Home Depot?

I‘ll have to do something for overnight tonight, and then again overnight Saturday.

Use sheets or blankets instead. You can cover those with the "drop cloth" but not just the plastic alone. Cardboard boxes work well also. Weight down the blankets or boxes too. You don't want to do all that work just to have it blow off.

Is it better to forgo the plastic altogether and just do sheets? I have plenty of old sheets I can use.

The snow predicted for Sunday morning is flurries only, thankfully. Then it’s supposed to warm back into the 50s.

Well the plastic sheeting over top of the old sheets will give better cold protection. If you can add something to keep the weight off taller pips all the better. Chopsticks, skewers, old cutlery.....whatever you have. I would hate to see your plants suffer.

Doesn't it just figure - I have company coming this evening (for a meeting after dinner) and also on Saturday (for dinner)! Well, at least they're all good friends of ours... I don't need to impress... and they already know I'm a crazy garden person!

Got some of mine covered for tonight, noticed some bunny munching, grrrrrr!

I put black plastic nursery or any other large pot or bucket over mine if heavy snow is predicted. If it's going to be windy, i'll add a rock to the top. To me, that's easier than blankets.
