Hi, we have an older 1950s home and we've been having water in one side of the basement after heavy rains. The basement is covered in 9x9 tiles and was never worried about them because they were never disturbed.
So the contractor for the French drain/ sump pump came by and said not to worry, he sees this all the time . He said they would just pry the tiles up with a chisel before they dig the drain and it would be no problem and wed be fine .
Afterwards I noticed outside of where they dug the drain there is a black looking dry residue one the floor which I just read can contain aspestos . If there was aspestos in that and they jackhammered it, would my family and I be at possible risk? I have a 4 year old and a baby on the way and I am in a state of pure fear and anxiety. Our washer /dryer and all of our xmas boxes and misculanious items were close by. There was a light dust coating on them but I figured it was cement they used. They dug about a 12 ft line and a bigger area in the corner for the sump . I feel like I messed up extremely by not doing more research.
Moving forward, what do I do? Should i throw the washer/ dryer and all my stuff away ? And there's exposed areas with the black glue also and. Ot sure what to do there . Any help on what I do next would be greatly appreciated . Thanks
