There's something weird about having a window immediately over your fireplace. Aside from the fact that a normal fireplace needs a chimney, a fireplace is supposed to lend an aura of coziness, whereas a window does the opposite. I was going to suggest covering it with a round mirror, but that might not be much of an improvement.. A picture would be better.

even covering up the window with the TV would be an improvement (if that's even possible). that way the eye is not drawn to the big thing in the corner. (what is that anyway? Is it hiding ductwork or something?)

If this was my house I'd cover fireplace window with a picture. I think your bigger dilemma is the strange structure your tv is hanging on. what is that thing? It's has 3 vents but no access door. It is very awkward looking and is a big distraction to the rest of your lovely room.

It is part of the house and can not be removed. Welcome to Florida! It was a huge hole for a big box tv before. I filled the hole in when we moved in since it couldn’t be removed.

I would put your tv on the ledge where your lamp is....if room. Don't need attention drawer to that unremovable thing. What is in it that it can it be removed or made smaller?

I actually think the fireplace window is kind of cool. Too bad the palm tree outside the side window isn't behind it. Any chance you could replace the glass with modern design stained glass? I'd just put something tall on one side of the window and something lower on the other side. Keep it simple.

That window looks a bit too much like a rifle scope.

But just out of curiosity, what is the structure in the corner? How is it part of the house? What comes out of the vents?

Why does the fireplace chimney cut in at the bottum to make room for the lower cabinets? It should go straight down to the floor. Who designed this?

But, that fireplace finish is quite nice. Cover the window with a picture.

The things that detract more from this room is that strange corner wall with the TV and the odd rounded windows above the windows with the shutters.

I'm going to assume the vents are actually speakers. That way you could hook up your giant box tv to your giant receiver and hide all the cords and wires. (been there, done that)

I agree that the fireplace is quite lovely and needs nothing more. I like what you have setting on the hearth.

The window, on the other hand, is the strangest thing I’ve ever seen. I, too, would lean a large picture or mirror against it.

mdromine Sorry if the comment are harsh. These discussions are essentially random people giving random input. People did say they liked the finish on the fireplace. It is very nice.

But, you have a WINDOW through the fireplace chimney. You don't think that is odd?

If I didn’t think it was odd I wouldn’t have asked for design/ camouflage advice. This is a custom built waterfront home in Florida. Not a fan of everything in the house but it’s a gorgeous home and a work in progress. You would die if you saw the 1990’s pink Formica that I have to rip out

I suppose you could always pay an actual designer.

I would leave it but change out the glass part to something interesting. I would get a second opinion on the TV corner unit. Even if there is HVAC runs behind it the are new slimmer solutions that could at least improve that corner. Makes no sense to me. It isn’t a load bearing feature since it doesn’t go to the ceiling. If you get that removed to normal wall and remove the built in you could have a spot for a nice TV console and TV. Surely worth exploring.

The built in are literally built into the fireplace so taking them out would leave a weird notch in the side of the fireplace. This is the problem with this whole area. You do one thing then you have five more issues. It’s insane lol

Hello, first of all, you have a lovely home and very good taste. It is a beautiful room. I would give anything to have a giant window like yours in the front of my house. It is fabulous! I do agree with some others that I would cover the porthole window over the fireplace with a large photo or simple painting or even a large tv. The vertical rectangle of the cow is the perfect size and shape. As far as the other structure in the corner, I would try to remove the tv and all the items sitting on top of the structure as they are distracting. Then you could hang 2 paintings vertically..., maybe a small horizontal rectangle under a larger one on that wall to change the focus. Or, you could just hang nothing there and put the TV on the shelf to the left of the fireplace. I would consider a wood or darker coffee table. Awsome room. Good luck!

It would be a pretty simple matter to fill in fireplace stone or faux paint filler. But you have to want to change things up. Almost anything can be done if you get the right people to help on site.

Could you take down the drywall thing that the TV is on and add to the cabinets that are next to the fireplace, so no weird notches. Just a longer walk of built ins

Is tah bump out where the TV is a closet on the othe side or what. As for the fireplace I kind of like the window it beats the heck out of aTV hung too high. That bump out would bug me more than that window.

For an inexpensive way to decorate above the mantel with a centered piece of "art", try placing film on the round window in a pattern that complements the rest of the room. Window film can sometimes look tacky, other times look pretty nice depending on what you pick. window film

You have a large scale element with this FP and you can't select wimpy accessories.

BTW I don't think that TV monument is working in the corner for you. Have you explored other options?

I would add a large round mirror and call it a day. mirror I choose this one as it will bring the eye to the colors.

I think your FP is beautiful and I love how Beverly has accessorized it on the mantel. As for the round window , I would capitalize on it as an interesting and unique feature by having a round leaded glass , using obscured/ wavy glass , commissioned to fit flush within the circle on the room side . Of course, if you don’t want to go that custom/ expensive route , then, as others have said, just cover it with art or a mirror.

As for the television bump out , it does not bother me as much as it seems to bother most contributors. However, I think it could be improved upon. Think about adding a floating shelf in the same material and at the same height as the black counter of your built ins and wrapping it around to the window wall. Then add some crown molding in white at the top. This would break up the mass of that structure and give it more of a “furniture look” .

Don’t worry about it. That huge corner TV thingy would bother me much much more

I wonder if you could cut down the TV thing so it isn't so tall and massive.

I like the unique fortress hole in the FP. It look a lot of work to make it happen.

Robert Evans living room with the window over the FP has been written about for decades and is legend. I would not cover it. because it is unique to your home.

I would get rid of the turret in the corner with the TV . That doesn't seem to work in the room.
