Any way of knowing which kind and if it will flower one year?

While they do pop up from bird dropped seed, root shoot saplings are very common around a lot of domesticated cherries. Any chance there is one growing nearby ?

Too young to determine species but yes, it will flower in time.

So far it doesn't look particularly like a sweet or sour cherry, more like a Japanese cherry.

i wouldnt expect anything in the realm of quality fruit producing.. from a random .. most likely bird dropped .... rogue seedling ...

Not worried about fruit, but we have Japanese weeping cherry trees here, (in Addition to other cherry trees) so hoping It is one and can relocate it to a better part of the yard

Foliage-wise these do not look much like suckers from any stock I have seen used here. They do look like Japanese cherry seedlings - something I have seen numbers of coming up on more than one local site (where seed source trees were fully visible nearby).

Try pulling a small one up and seeing if it pops out with its own small branching root system or if it turns out to be coming from a large horizontal root. One that leads back to a much larger source tree in the immediate vicinity.
