Hello, We have a 1950s ranch in the Midwest. We were having trouble with water seeping in along the bottom of the walls in the basement, and we recently had interior drains and a second sump placed to deal with that problem. My question is, now that the interior drain tile is in, can I paint the block walls? I've read that painting the walls prevents them from breathing and leads to the blocks disintegrating over time, but theoretically with the drain tile, the water should be draining, right? We want to make the basement more appealing, but we're not ready to actually finish it with walls and such. And we plan to live in this house long term, so long term potential issues are still a concern. To paint or not to paint?
