since the mantle is busy with detail, am thinking brass for andirons? Classic? Does anyone know anything about fireplace fenders? Are they appropriate for raised hearths?

Your fireplace currently has 2 personalities. The formal wood surround and the much more casual brick. I would face the exposed vertical brick around the firebox with good quality tile, perhaps stone. Then face the hearth with solid pieces of stone. Because you have chosen to paint the brick white, perhaps you could go with Carerra marble. FYI, andirons and fenders you use instead of a screen. There is a safety issue to consider there, not just a design dilemma.

I think the white is too stark. Tile would look good or go with a shade of the walls.

I am trying white dove first as that is the trim color but may try something else if too stark. Right now the brick is just primed and it is blinding white!

I would leave the brick primed and paint your walls before you decide on your final brick color. The surround is beautiful. Instead of a fender I would use a screen, for simplicity and to keep the focus on the beautiful wood. You could look at glass or a simple metal design.

I agree that the wood mantel is beautiful and the white brick is incongruous with it.

Fairly simple design. Will with others - the stark white seems a little stark in contrast. Since the surround and mantle are fairly ornate perhaps just simple black iron/steel screen would be appropriate. It's a beautiful fireplace btw.

Wow. It DOES look great all one color. If you need a fire screen, look for a simple one. I had a plain, curved black mesh one in my 1925 house that had a similar wood & brick fireplace. Even the handles to move it were plain black. It looked great.

Art is better than a mirror unless the mirror is reflecting something interesting (not the ceiling). If the mantel is high, it’s too high for a tv. IMO a big TV above a mantel is just wrong. It’s too high for viewing and is a big black hole when it’s turned off. Add a screen in front of the fireplace, with or without a nice grate with some wood inside the fire box.
