Haha! No they aren't painted but what is funny is our last cabinets that we had for 26 years, I painted black and spattered white. I still love black and white ;)

They are black - there is a film on them, which is why they might look a bit shiny, waiting till handles are on to take it off. They are Ikea.

We only have the range as white. It wasn't available when we bought the other appliances.

They are each on different walls, so it works.

The range, counterop and the faucet, I feel like are the jewelery of the room ;)

Cyndi - I have never seen black and spattered white cabinets. Sounds interesting. I am in the process finishing up painting my honey oak cabinets. I am painting them black. I dont see many examples of black kitchens. Yours is fabulous. I love everything about it. I love the open shelves and how you use dishes to add color to the space.

Yes to the hexagon back splash sample! Your kitchen would make me want to cook! How do you like the Brizo faucet?

Awe, thanks! I will look for a pic of them if you like. Kudos to you! When I painted them it was a major job, washed with tsp - those were the days of using non latex based paint, but they lasted extremely well.

p.s. have to give credit to my husband on using the open shelves, one day a couple of years ago. I came home and he used this rough extra wood, and put up shelves in this corner, they became one of my favorite parts of our kitchen.

Might go with a gradient of black to grey to white. This decision doesn't feel nearly as big as all the others :)

Lynartist, Check out the slate appliance by GE - love ours - no fingerprints! I was worried about the color going out of style, but I am over it. I think other brands might have 'matte' also now.

Your backsplash should MATCH one of the colors in your gorgeous counter....the white, or one of the lighter grays. Size and shape of the backsplash tiles is up to you, but I would like medium subway in the lighter gray with matching grout. If you have an off-cut of your counter, take it with you when you look at tile because you need to know it matches. Remember that the backsplash is partially hidden by countertop appliances, so it will be a background item.

As long as the tile was brought up... these are choices, choosing from...

Love penny rounds, thought is might be too much grout area and the pattern might detract from counterop. Originally was going with subway tiles which you can see underneath.

They were out of black hex, might lead with that on the shorter wall. If you have done anything like this love to hear your thoughts :)

Originally was going to do white matte and gloss alternate brick style with subway tile with gray/blackish grout. Then I saw the black and kind of love the matte black, not the whole wall but some of it.

What a great kitchen! I love how you used black and white as a backdrop for color and texture. Nothing cookie-cutter-ish about it. I too am a big fan of that Brizo faucet. Congratulations.

Looks awesome! I prefer the larger hex tile. The smaller one seems out of proportion to the big swirly movement in your beautiful counters.

Fsal, I love brass! Unfortunately, It didnt' match/blend at all with the hardware front and center on the stove. This was one of the biggest time consumers, trying to find hardware that would work.

I am going with something that is called brushed bronze and one that is called champagne.

I decided to go with 2 different handles. I know sounds weird, I think I am going to love it though:)

With the beautiful movement in the counter and the open shelves; I might opt for a subway, but the larger hex is nice too. Tough call. Beautiful kitchen, congrats!

@cyndi I’ve got that same faucet and also found the finishes you decided on complement the faucet more than the ones described as brass. Looking forward to seeing your end results!

The problem has mostly been with the range being right next to it. One of the things I love about the knurling on the faucet, is it can go a couple of ways ;)

Honestly those open shelves loo awful they have a bunch of stuff that looks like you couldn’t find room for them anywhere else.Love the counters the hood is too small for the stove , pot fillers are one of the most useless addons in a kitchen unless the sink is right beside the stove. The backsplash needed to be done before the shelves or the hood.

I think the shelves are awesome. Very functional for dishes of all sizes the way you have them staggered.

I’d do a white backsplash. Black would take away from your other gorgeous elements.

Still styling shelves and more, but just wanted to say. I am lovin' my kitchen.

I love it! The pops of color on the open shelf look great to me.

I always love hex tiles, no matter the size. But the penny rounds could be a nice fit for your kitchen, picking up on the round shape of your pendant lights.

Karenmo, Funny you mention that. I am leaning toward 3or 4 inch white hex tiles instead of subway tile, which where I was originally going.

As far as penny rounds, I think I am a bit obsessed with penny rounds :) I don't know why. We still have a bathroom to do, so I might wait and use them there.

Fantastic job! It is lovely and fun. I love the Cambria and would like to share that our Cambria Dovedale has held up incredibly well for the last 8 yrs. I would go with the White Hex tile. What brand is your stove - love it!

Wow, that you caught that. It is a big glass bird, just for fun :) It has some gold and purple-ish highlights that just seemed like it belonged in that corner. It is living there for now.

The stove is GE Cafe - matte white. So far loving, the way it cooks and cleans up. I am not a cook, totally bought the stove for looks. It is making me more of a cook though. My wonderful husband went along with me :) He is more the cook and enjoying the 'function' of it.

What sink did you end up using and are you happy with the choice? I need a 6” apron and seems whitehaven is the only good choice. Originally wanted stainless but seems stainless is out....

Went with whitehaven. Love it :) we have a 'divided' one. I think 60/40 or something, can't remember exact right now. I will try and take a pic and add later.
