Did it lose its leaves inside the house or did you take it outside for spring and it lost its leaves there?

Scratch the bark with your finger nail, if it's green under the bark, it's still alive.

One of my small trees did this too (due to lack of watering, not cold), but it is already regrowing new leaves. So YES, there is hope!

It is never a good sign when an evergreen tree drops all its leaves :-( But it is possible for it to make a comeback. I'd wait to see how it does over the next few weeks

And green under the bark is not a guarantee of vitality. Trees retain a lot of fluid within their tssue and it is entirely possible for a tree to be dead yet still show signs of green under the bark. It can take a long time for all that fluid to dry up........

I agree. The scratch test is only for sure if it's NOT green under the bark, then it's dead. Green can exist if it's recently dead and hasn't dried out completely yet. :^)

Thanks For all your advise. It did have some dead branches but as mentioned some live branches its outside in new soil spurting new leaves on the live branch on its way to a healthy recovery!! thanks all
