Removing upper cabinets
Looking to do a kitchen remodel, but keep the existing layout. Plan to paint lower cabinets, replace counters with quartz (waterfall down the peninsular), replace appliances, replace tile, and add a hood above the stove. Would it look strange to only remove the upper cabinets to the left of the window and replace with open wood shelving? I thought about removing them all or only on the one wall, but the corner cabinet makes that a bit tricky. Open to other suggestions. And what to do with all the oak trim??

considering removing the arched window and replacing it w/more modern transom (or just drywall over it)
paint all other oak molding white
since you are painting, what do you think about adding on to your cabs to close the gap? simple boxes can be built. you can add glass or doors or even keep them open and backlit
looks like they removed the soffit, raised the boxes a bit (18" is standard) and added thicker crown
and it's fine to have the shelving to the left.
