Need bug ID help

While visiting our daughter in Maryland, we found a couple of these a few days ago and I noticed a couple more of them this morning when we left. Looks like a beetle but not sure what type. The photos are of ones I moved off the walkway to the mulch. Probably not the right thing to do. They appear to be dead whatever they are. Any ideas on what they may be?
