I was having a play on photoshop trying to brighten it a bit to resemble more of a Colorbond Woodland Grey (Colour in Australia)

Your gut is telling you to go lighter. I think that is right. Getting it a few shades lighter would be better if you can't go to the darkest color on you house. Good luck.

IMO way too dark. I would paint it the trim color of the house

It is too dark now and becomes all you see. I suggest choosing a mid tone(not dark) color shade from the stone on the house....love the house.

Thanks for your help and honesty, I have had so many opinions on my fence colour, dark is good but I do agree this is too dark. What about a gray?

I might try Woodland grey tomorrow on a couple of panels, it's darkish but has some lighter tones to it.

I agree that it would look wonderful painted the color of the deck and the upper part of your house. More cohesive and would blend well with the view in the background instead of standing out so much.

Also agree the dark color pulls too much focus. A color from the house would be nice.

I was thinking I could darken some areas of the house to suit the fence?

I'd rather see the fence changed since I like the house colors now. However, maybe someone here could do a mockup making parts of the house darker...?

I like the dark fence - it looks grounded, and it will lighten slightly over time. I would stain the light wood on your bbq to match the fence. Once you have some plantings it will be a nice backdrop to the greenery. You could paint the darker taupe area near the top of your house the same color, but I don't think it's necessary.

Update: I painted the outside of the fence today with a lighter tone, thoughts? I might keep the inside of the fence a bit darker as it's not so visible in the back yard.

The new color is fine, but I would keep the dark color on the interior.

Wow much better than the dark

The new color blends in with the surroundings better than the darker one. Dark green or black fences blend better when there is a lot of greenery surrounding the home.

Thanks Diana, I am happy with the new colour. I am going to try some darker tones for inside the fence in the backyard, as there will be a lot of planting in front of the fence.

I would look to match the darkest shade in your stone/brick trim of the house.

Close, but no cigar. Your fence wants to be the exact same color as the frieze board on the upper level, a bit lighter and a bit more pink. It's not a huge deal, so I wouldn't do it till the fence needs repainting again.

Thanks Grover, I was actually going to paint the frieze board to match the fence colour in a few weeks as they are doing some general painting around. The fence will also lighten over the next few months as exterior paint does a bt - hope that sounds ok :P :)

I would go with a light paint color that matches the house instead of drawing attention to the fence.

Bring home a color deck from a paint store, and when the most light is shining on your brick, look to match the darkest brick color to a color in the deck. You do not want anything in a pink tone at all.

Hi Barbara, thanks again for your help. by brick are you referring to the stone feature cladding/walls? It has quite a few tones to it.
