9 inch depth kitchen cabinets

I have a long wall with nothing on it that I want to make into cabinets so I can put a DISHWASHER into my kitchen. Not doing a remodel, just want to utilize this wall. Spoke with my contractor about cutting into the studs so I can have 12" but the cost makes no sense. Anyone know about tall, non-custom kitchen cabinets, 9" deep, up to 8" tall that can span about 4-6 feet in width? I've not yet had luck, and I know they're out there.

Without pictures there is no way to know but IMO 9” is kind of useless for most things in akitchen What do you want to store there ?

I don't have a wall of 9" depth cabinets but I do have a SINGLE cabinet that is approximately this depth which I use for pantry items. I live in a high rise and this cabinet is in front of a structural beam so it cannot be any deeper.

I recently remodeled and I actually made the cabinet shallower for aesthetic purposes so that it wouldn't protrude past the rest of the cabinets. Previously it had been a bit deeper because it was next to a standard depth refrigerator so it didn't stick out.

At any rate, I found the shallow depth counter to be EXTREMELY functional since everything was easily visible. Depending on the size of the object, I could fit either one or two items and it stored quite a lot considering it wasn't that wide - maybe 18" wide. But all kinds of bottles and cans - i.e. quite a lot of food fit in there well.

I would imagine you could also configure the interior of individual cabinets to hold cleaning supplies - or even brooms, ironing boards, bags, wrapping paper etc. - even mugs. trays but I only had the one cabinet and it worked perfectly as a food pantry. Think of it this way - with a deeper cabinet, you need a rollout in order to make items accessible and with a shallow cabinet, you don't.

The only drawback is the potential cost since each cabinet is going to cost about what a deeper cabinet would cost.

My NEW shallow cabinet has decorative grilles in front of each shelf so that items don't topple off but my pre-remodel version which was deeper didn't have one and nothing ever fell from the shelves.

    How about shelves?

Here is a link for a company that sells various depth cabinets. https://www.idealcabinetry.com/Customize.aspx

Cabinets are costly and may not be needed. If this is a partition wall (NON bearing) consider having some of the studs removed. Cover the exposed drywall with 1/4 inch MDF, install lumber shelves, paint everything, finish off with sliding closet doors.

Any semi custom line can do that. Get out of the cheap stock cabinet lines.

    Wow, thanks y’all.

I currently have 4 meager shelves for pantry. This wall of 9” deep shelves will almost triple that, plus create a broom closet, a place for some cleaning supplies, and will let me move things around so I can finally have a dishwasher installed. 9” won’t hold dishes, but I have room for them elsewhere.

Truthfully - oh the scandal to declare this on Houzz - I might just get two Billy bookshelves with doors from Ikea and live with them overlapping the kitchen door moulding a bit. It’s easy, inexpensive and immediate. I can wait for the someday kitchen remodel to cut into the studs.

If anyone reads this at a later date - I've actually gone with 2 full size Billy bookshelves from Ikea with shaker panel doors. $450 and one day of buying and assembling instead of $7,000+ as I didn't have to cut into the studs and re-frame. It isn't perfect, for sure, but I've got 11" depth, it's so close to my kitchen cabinet style it blends just fine, and with some mindful placement of the units the overlap with the door trim is fine. I've gotten over my Ikea aversion. Sometimes its a great solution.

In the future, it would be nice to never post a kitchen cabinet thread in the landscape design forum

Completely unintentional Yaardvark. Kitchen questions don’t go in landscape.
