Do not use gel stain on those rented cabinets, you will never be able to match the color. I agree with the poster above, try using some sort of finish like that first. Nothing permanent like stains

Do nothing and stop worrying? Chances are your landlord isn't going to notice/care.

I accidentally scrubbed some white paint off a door in my old apartment because I was using a magic eraser to clean handprint grime from around the doorknob, except it kept getting grimier. So I kept scrubbing, and it got grimier still. Then I realized I was scrubbing off the paint, which had gotten thin enough in places that it was showing the dark color underneath. Whoops. Landlord didn't notice or care, and I got back the whole security deposit.

As a landlord myself I would expect that tenants would use their kitchen, and part of using it is cleaning it - shouldnt be that fragile that you cant clean without wearing off the finish. I would bet they probably did gel stain without a clear hard finish over it to protect it.

Relax. Take off /Unscrew a drawer face, go to a good paint/ hardware store near you, preferably not the BIG BOX. Ask for the recommend, which is probably as simple as an Old English restore product. Test a low drawer in the kitchen. : ) It will be fine.

Hi there! We can barely even tell what happened. Are you talking about that one darker spot? In our opinion that is just normal wear and should not cause you stress.
