Closet/Bedroom/Bathroom Sizing

I am renovating a home that is ~4000 square feet. I am trying to redesign the closet/bedroom/bathroom and am not sure how to deal with sizing. I have an option of a 9ft x 17ft or more "her" closet but my wife may want an island. If I make it wider it requires the master bedroom drop to 16ft wide vs 18ft. The bathroom is 11 x 17. So my main question is it better to have say a 9 x 17 closet with a 18 x 18 bedroom or a 11 x 17 closet with a 16x18 bedroom. Also size of closet required to have an island

What would be the purpose of the island? I think a large open closet without an island is more functional, and that size gives you plenty of space with a good shelving design.

Not again. 4,000 sq, ft. and yet you can't access the closets without walking through the toilet. The ONLY access is through the bathroom. That makes no sense.

And, for the person using the toilet--where will they stand while closing or opening the door? There is no room for a person to stand in that gas chamber and open or close the door.

Get an architect.

An architect or a draftsman? I'd be surprised (appalled) if a real architect gave me something as unworkable as that toilet area and as limiting as the bathroom-only access to the closets.

Even if he made it a bit larger, consider this: If that will be your forever home, to age in, what happens when you have an emergency in that toilet room? How will they get you (or your body) out with you on the floor jammed between the toilet and the door? Don't laugh at that scenario; I learned a few years ago that passing out while on the toilet is fairly common.

He is a real architect. I suppose he may not be amazing but I have been making him edit it many times and will continuer to do so. I posted so that I can get suggestions as to how to fix it. I would not trust an architect blindly anyhow. Based on the suggestions, I can redesign so the closets are entered right before the bathroom and then that toilet is between the "his" closet and the bathroom of the guest room. Though his plans may have silly items I am sure that happens with many architects which is why I am keeping a close eye and trying to fix things.

Let's do the math: 24" x 2 clothing racks ... 24" for a minimum sized island (and that'd only give you drawers on one side) ... 36" x 2 for walking space on each side of the island. So a closet with an island must be at least 12' wide ... and that's minimum /not a luxurious size.

Why does she see an island as a positive? Packing suitcases, maybe?

I'd rather put the money /effort into having the laundry adjacent to the closet. That's an actual upgrade in terms of function.
