Such a big place! I agree with the above post. Prime it white. If you don’t want a dressing room, maybe the ‘sitting area‘ could be made into an exercise space. Looks like the perfect space for a treadmill.

I do know people that use their sitting area for different purposes.

Some people do not have their television in the sleeping area at all, but have it in the sitting area with seating.

Some people use their seating area as an office.

Some people use it as an exercise room if they don't have another space for one.

Some people turn it into another closet, if they need one.

You might want to draw up a scaled plan of what you want in the main bedroom area and where, the bed, nightstands, dressers, if you plan to use them, etc.

You might also wait to move in first before you decide what you want to do with the sitting area.

Once you are moved in you may realize that you absolutely desperately need move space to store your clothing, shoes, etc. Or you really don't need it.

Or there is really not a good place for a seating area in the bedroom. Or even if there is, there is such a nice view from the sitting area, it just begs for a comfy chair and ottoman for you to curl up in.

Sometimes you just don't know what you need until you live in the house for a while.

But do prime and paint a light neutral color before you move in to get those workmen and fumes over and done with before you and your furniture are there.

As to the paint situation, I am not a fan of painting one wall a different color and calling it an accent wall.

That seems to imply one has run out of either ideas or funds with which to add interest to the room.

And please, no shiplap.

I actually use the reading nook in my bedroom all the time. I'd probably cozy it up with a bookcase and maybe a little tv. But if you don't have adequate closets, I'd start there. And maybe close up that weird pass thru thing.

Unless that is going to be a closet, I would leave the "pass through."

I bet it gets rather warm up there.

It's not a coincidence that there is a ceiling fan installed.

That opening in the wall allows not only for additional natural light, but much needed additional cross ventilation through the windows on the external wall that is perpendicular to the other set of windows.

A fresh breeze will waft perfectly over the faces of the sleeping residents of the room if the bed is placed with the head of the bed on the wall facing the television.

Maybe you would be interested in something a bit fresher than gray accent wall. Someone recently mentioned this wallpaper from Anthropologie, which is pretty, and here's another wallpaper idea. I'd put a mural wallpaper behind the bed.

Be careful if you're in love with the color gray, to avoid the impulse to buy a gray bed, gray bedding, gray-washed wood floors, etc. It might seem a little depressing.

You could always make that extra space into an office by closing off the arc.
