Well. This one LONG hall and one not great kitchen. I sure wouldn't want to go that circuitous route from master to kitchen. To the not great kitchen.

Get an architect to the home you are "re designing" .

Your instinct is correct, you’ve got way too much space devoted to hallways. There are also many inefficiencies in each room. Are you working within an existing footprint or adding/building from scratch? It appears to be a big project and I think you would get a far better result with professional guidance.

It would be helpful to see your whole plan to see how the rest of the rooms relate to each other.
The master suite closets and bathroom are too large (wasted space) and the bedroom doesn’t have enough wall space for dressers or a small sitting area.
The kitchen should have a door to the l.o.n.g hall so you don’t have to hike between the bedroom and the kitchen to check on your dinner while you dress for company or simply want to turn on the coffee maker in the morning.
Compared to the “grand” room, the kitchen is small and tight without enough space for two people to move around.
It’s time for a professional consultation and probably a re-drawn plan.

Get an architect that hallway is ridiculous. Post the original floor plan with an explanation of what you hope to acheive with a new one Then see what pops up for help. And while you are at it get a kitchen designer

Initial before anything

Updated floor plan. Also, I have professional architect already which is who developed the plans but I never just trust one person. I did a 7 foot buildout for the master as current closet and bathroom I would like larger. I also wanted a more open floor plan and to add a side entry to the house as well as laundry.

Also, grand room is pitched 18ft ceilings, kitchen currently is 8ft ceilings so expanding kitchen into grand room space is not possible (I will be raising kitchen ceilings to 10ft hopefully)

The bedrooms range from 11x13 to 13x14. It is a 4000sqft house

!18’ ceilings are not IMO right in this century with heating and cooling gobbling up money and you certainly do not need a 10’ ceiling in a kitchen. I like kitchens on outside walls so venting can be done cheaply and also have more natural light so maybe put the kitchen at the back and the eating space where part of the kitchen is and more connected to the grand space and IMO a new architect if this is what came out of the plan.

I should mention the kitchen is 14.6ft wide so if it shifts to the other side it would be very tight for an island. The other issue is that all those windows have city views so I can not obscure any windows

Overall, the house has a very poor circulation /traffic pattern. Reaching any room requires many steps /a trip down a hallway /stepping through "pinchpoints".

Agree. With windows on three sides, this great room could really be something, but 18' ceilings will be totally out of proportion. 10' ceilings in a kitchen become problematic when you start looking at cabinets ... you probably want them "to the ceiling", but you can't use the ones at the top, and they cost so much.

The only places that need 18 foot elevations are churches and high school basket courts .

Put nine in the kitchen and twelve in the great room.

I see no reason that I would ever lower the 18ft pitched ceiling as it is classic to midcentury modern architecture. Additionally the entire 18ft of height is floor to ceiling windows with a slider so lowering that to 12 feet is not an option. If there are suggestions to make the hallways better I would really appreciate them as I understand they are long which is why I posed the question. I will have 10 foot ceilings with a soffet over cabinets so that wold not be issue in terms of cabinet height
