Hi. There is hope here.

1) Move the lamp to the window wall. So, over by your calendar.

2) Remove as many small things from the walls as possible.....calendar, high art on the blue wall, etc. All art will have to be reconfigured once you move things.

3) See if you can do something to hide all of the computer cords. You can get a cord hider, pulling them together and sending them toward the window wall, instead of behind the desk.

4) Put the larger file cabinet where the coat rack is. Move lower one toward the door.

5) Coat rack where large file cabinet is.

6) Boxes on wall where large file cabinet is now. See if you can get admissions to buy shelves. Open the boxes and stack the shirts neatly on the shelves.

7) Move table and chairs closer to the blue wall, with chairs on the blue wall side.

8) Very large piece of impactful art on the blue wall. You can buy something very large and impactful at Kirklands.

A few questions -

Move lamp to window wall... do you mean floor lamp? My pictures don’t show it well (I took pictures very quickly at the end of the day) but there is also a table lamp to the left of my left monitor.

Win a cord hider, would it end up laying ON my desk towards the window wall?

In 4) are you referring to lateral cabinet immediately near and to the left of door upon entry into office? The 2 tall cabinets to the right of door are not mine and contain T-shirts and sweatshirts. “Move lower one towards the door” both filings cabinets are lower unless you mean tall cabinets that are not mine. I think you mean switch the lateral cabinet below the white board with the coat tree. If so, I will have to move the white board ? Should I keep it above the lateral cabinet? I like the white board in its current position because I can see it from my desk to visualize certain drawings.

I will work on getting more shelving or another cabinet (preferred because it is closed storage) I didn’t mention that boxes come and go as events happen and other people dump boxes in as deliveries are made. Student workers fold and place according to size as time permits. I can also work on having a process where boxes are emptied and shirts are arranged neatly in a more timely fashion.

About table and chairs ... would you arrange it long end against blue wall? To be honest it is not utilized that much if at all. But maybe that is because there is so much clutter.

Also I drew the layout a bit incorrectly... the two tall cabinets to the right of the door are not perpendicular to each other they are actually both on the same wall as the door. Basically behind the door when door is open.

Lamps: I did not see the table lamp. I would get one good lamp for your desk and place it where the current table lamp is. If the table lamps is fine, keep it.

You can move the floor lamp over by the table and chair. Right....no one uses the table and chair because of where it is. There is another option: if people come to visit you in your office, place the chairs facing the desk and eliminate the small table.

The file cabinet by your desk is fine if you use it a lot.

Lateral cabinet. Yes, leave where it is.

I am understanding you are saying the tall cabinets are not yours and there are 2 of them? You can leave them where they are and/or get open shelving as we discussed. You need to somehow figure out how to get the boxes out of there. They are the elephants in the room.

Wonderful CDR - I will work on that. Any thoughts on art behind my desk chair? What I have is okay? Or not? Green flower canvas was done by my nephew so it’s sentimental. Other watercolor near door when leaving was done by friend’s daughter from church.

The art is all small and not working with the blue wall. (unless you want to do a gallery wall and that gets very tricky and takes skill to get it right.

I suggest getting the funiture reset and then relook at art.

Turns out one of the 2 metal cabinets was practically empty so a student worker emptied about 6-8 of the boxes and filled it up. I’ve placed the remaining boxes in the spot where I hope to get a 3rd metal cabinet, moved the table and cleared the blue wall. Still working on getting a cord wrapper.

What’s next houzzers???

Looking a lot better! Thoughts:

1) Place a chair on either side of the table. Chairs face each other.

2) Desk. Would you consider taking the desk and moving it to area with small file cabinet? This way, large monitors would be against wall and you'd still see people as they enter. Right now, you have those big monitors in the middle of the room. It looks ugly. I didn't realize there were 2 massive monitors. .

A lot of people think they "look out a window" as they work. In reality, they don't too much.

I had to think about your last suggestion for awhile. I really shy away from facing the wall. Claustrophobic and previous jobs I had a cubicle with no windows. In fact, I have a cube/office in another bldg on campus and try to spend as much time here in Admissions as possible (I support 3 depts on campus in separate bldgs).

Instead of facing the wall what about a room divider? A shorter one about 4-5 feet tall. You may not have noticed but I also stand at my desk.

And I also noticed that 3 of my pictures all on different have a similar green on them. I know you mentioned collages are hard to do but take a look. I still like the idea of looking for a large piece of art at Home Goods etc...

Yes, I did notice the similar colors in the art. I think you can add "Wildflower garden" also. That might work behind your desk.

Yes, a room divider would work well, as long as you don't mind creating 2 different "zones" in your office. It sounds like you don't meet with people at your desk. I originally had that impression because of how the chairs were set.

I do meet with people at my desk only occasionally. 1 person at most which is the reason for the single chair under wildflower picture.

How would you add wildflower to the mix? And are you saying to hang it behind my desk?

Because of a project coming up I anticipate 3 of us meeting at the table and relying on large post-it sheets of paper to sketch out workflow and such. So I guess it is yes to having 2 separate work zones. I wouldn’t be at my desk while others are at the table.

You can make the collage as large or small as you want, even adding other pieces of art. Wildflower garden would likely be in the center. I would take the time to lay out the collage on the floor before hanging.

Not bad, actually! I Yes, by that window you are going to get glare. Could get some nonglare glass in the one with the lady.

Under the lower right and upper right, I get something linear to fill in there: a linear piece of art.......a non-picture art piece, etc. I'll bet the art department has something lying around. You have a nice eye!

It could be a branch, 3 floral art wall sculptures, etc.

Templates are behind the wall. Or maybe on blue wall ? Will shop for something on the wall I don’t put it on.

Good job. Templates too small for blue wall. Good size for behind desk. I like gallery walls to have clean lines on the outside: looks pulled together.

Try this: move upper right up, so 2 top pieces are on same horizontal plane. Move bottom right down so 2 bottom arts are on same horizontal plane. Then you need only one filler between top and bottom right.

Chairs look much better!

Could few straggler boxes go to the right of the lateral file cabinet?

You could also try the gallery on the shelf wall. You don't want art on every wall. It begins to look cluttered. I think if you have one focal point wall, that is enough.

Is this something special to you? What do you think of framing it and including it in the gallery?

Yes - my 5 yo grandson drew it. Was thinking the same thing. :)

I made the top and bottom of the gallery flush. The shelf wall is significantly shorter so I would have to do a different configuration. But I think I like it behind my desk best.
