How do I get juicier fruit?

Is it just a matter of watering more frequently or thoroughly, or are there other factors?

I have a year-old Bearss lime in a container on my patio that has grown well and set some fruit. I picked a couple of the limes when they began to go lighter green, had a bit of give when squeezed, and smelled fragrant. The flavor was nice but they hardly had any juice.

I had a similar result with a potted Meyer lemon a while back, but I hadn't been watering faithfully. I try to stay on top of watering the lime, but we got so much rain this winter that I mostly let nature take care of it.

I keep it in a pot with a self-watering grid and reservoir at the bottom and an overflow drainage hole. I'm on the north coast of California, zone 9b.
