How old are your parents? Rugs can be a tripping hazard as you age. However, if that is not a

Agree with Fiss. Go to any rug store, pick out a rug with one of the colors in their sofa, (probably beige as their choices seem very conservative), have it bound to an 8x10.

Thanks so much for the responses! My parents are in their late 60s/early 70s. They have other rugs in other rooms, so I don't think it will pose a tripping hazard, but certainly something we'll keep in mind.

My mom prefers a more primitive style, so anything that even slightly leans contemporary is out. A sisal/jute is definitely a possibility, though I think she might like something with more going on. She generally thinks more is more. :)
