Built a new deck!

Recently bought a house. Ugliest part of the house was the rear deck that was poorly supported and very small. Replaced it with a much bigger and stronger deck.

Yes, especially when the old deck was mostly benches that were useless and ate up space. Thank you.

Beautiful! Great design choice! It's nice to see something different, Love the movement in the rails.

So much more stylish and in keeping with the look of the house; with furniture, it will look like an extension of the house. Very good move. Congrats

Beautiful. Love the light color. What wood and protectant was used? Really like the iron balusters.

What type of shade are you going to incorporate??? Looks very sunny. Nice railing...

I haven't put any protectant on it yet. The wood has to dry out of its chemicals completely then I'll apply clear protectant. Most of the wood is yellow pine from yellawood since they were the only ones I could find in the area that had 20' long wood. The deck is 20' long, 18' wide.

quiltygirl44 - they aren't iron. They are powercoated aluminum balusters.

Loved the iron design as I posted previously. Nice! Alumininum is a great choice, I believe it would be less maintenance.

Nice job!!! Looks like it is never, ever going to fall down! :-) Like the little design twist with the aluminium balusters (yes, I thought they were iron, too!) Most decks would just have had timber there. Congratulations, very impressive!

I don't know where you are, but here in Seattle moss builds up on EVERYTHING and makes even treated wood very spongy very quickly. You're probably somewhere a good deal drier, but I would have chamfered the edges of the lumber to drain water off the horizontal surfaces. It's the kind of thing I think of only after the project is finished, of course. Your deck is fabulous and those balusters are unbreakable -- I used them to make shafts for a dog cart pulled by an exuberant Great Dane, and they still look perfect after a lot of abuse.

Beautiful deck fits perfect with the house what else to say fabulous...

    Thanks all!

I would finish the underneath by applying lattice work. It makes it look more complete and prevents animals from nesting. ( my lattice wasn't complete and a raccoon lived under my deck and harassed the dog).
