So we recently purchased a older home that has radiant heat base boards. All of the base boards vents are located on the main level while no heat source is in basement besides the piping the runs through the vents. I was thinking of purchasing a new manifold and running PEX through out the rafters. Then take old system and redirecting the piping and moving base board vent to basement floor. In the future the basement will be used as living space, with bedroom, office, bathroom and family space. The reason for the post is....while demoing to upstairs bathroom we noticed that on top of the 3/4" plank boards are 2 layers of subflooring. Both layer together look to be 1 1/4" - 1 3/8" thick. A total of about 2". We still plan to put padding and carpet in the bedrooms and Hall. Tile in bath and Pergo laminate throughout kitchen, dining room and living room. Will proper installation of 1/2" PEX with heat transfer plates heat this floor?
