IMO a white fan without a light would be correct. I don't think you want to draw alot of attention to the fan, so I would select a 3 blade, not a 5-6 blade fan.

That's actually a nice-looking fan. I recommend you go with a polished nickel finish so it does not feel so overwhelming in the room.

I would leave the fan centered in the room just because it's usually the best look/place.

I think if you increase the size--IMO, yours looks undersized-- and had a longer downrod it would make a difference,

PS - how would he feel with having an oscillating fan on a dresser just blowing on him.

The longer pole that you use to drop the fan down from the ceiling will make a huge difference in the amount of air that you will feel. I also like to sleep under a ceiling fan.

The amount of air a fan moves has to do with the blade pitch not the downrod.

I think ceiling fans ARE an attractive option, and once you get used to having them, it's been my experience that it's awfully hard to go without. I agree with Jim about leaving the fan centered, but increasing its size and down-rod length. The Minka Aire you're considering looks like it may be rated for outdoor/wet use, although I'm not sure that matters for indoor application. I do think the fan in polished nickel that CDR Design shared is a very pretty one. A bit less industrial-looking than the darker finish somehow.

Beverly, I have the same fan in 5 rooms and the one with the 6 ft. down rod blows much more air then the one with the 1 ft. down rod.

It does look like that is the only natural place for a bed in this space. So, centering the fan over the bed is fine, in this case.

Yes, given the same fan, one that is closer to you is going to feel like more air is flowing.

Have you checked the spin of the blades? they will go one direction for the winter to push the heat down from the ceiling and the opposite in the summer... maybe he doesn't feel the breeze because its spinning wrong??

Adding to Debbi’s comment vis-à-vis fan blade direction:

-Counter-clockwise for summer (cooling)

-Clockwise for winter (heating)

Not much to suggest except that I prefer fans that are a similar color as the ceiling....and have to chuckle at the "switching sides of bed" comments...in my house that's like "WHAT?!?!" and probably an offer of a pillow for the sofa...

We have Minka Aire Artemis, shown in the previous comment, throughout our home.. Very effective and virtually silent.. We have them in 4 different colors and love them all.. White does definitely look better in a bedroom.. Other rooms can take colors very well.. Every time someone new walks into our home, their first reaction is to compliment the fans.. So unusual and very attactive.. Get one....you will love it

Here's why: Your fan would work better if it was on a longer rod. right now it's too high over your bed to have any real impact (unless you put it on gale force!) Your blades are also too short for that size bedroom. look for a fan in the 60" range.

Also, make sure blades spin clockwise for cooling. counterclockwise pushes down warmer air.

i have a fan over our bed that goes all summer. however, I just got one of those Dyson air purifiers/fans (the round one) and put that on me at night. you could set it on a stool or something on his side of the bed and you can program it to go off at any time. The small fan is a good option if you don't want the ceiling fan blowing on you.

vinmarks, counterclockwise on mine is for heat. clockwise cools. you should be able to feel the fan breeze on yourself for cooling. for most fans i've ever had it's clockwise. counterclockwise you won't feel the fan blowing on you. but it pulls up the hot air and pushes it back downward. that's why in the winter you run them counter.

We have 9' ceilings and have a matte white 52" , 5 blade over our bed and it just disappears into ceiling and is also quiet. It has 6 speeds, so it can really move the air; we never have it higher than 3. I would look into how much air the fan can move and just put it in same location. Your fan is probably just not powerful enough. A good fan person in a lighting store should be able to size it for you with your room measurements and make a recommendation.

Beth according to what I have read on the internet and my experience with all the ceiling fans in my house counter clockwise is for cooling and clockwise is for pushing down warm air. I can feel the breeze blowing down when it's counter clockwise but not clockwise. See the following link:

well maybe i'm dyslexic w/fan blade movement. it appears to be moving to the left which is clockwise (cooling). I read all of the info and it does say CCW is for cooling, CW is for warming. I'm just saying on my fans (and they are both the same model), CW movement is a cooling breeze. when I turn it to CCW, I feel no breeze. (Hunter fans)

My MIL had them in every bedroom. They are very helpful for some climates. Before I went to the trouble of moving the electric box I would trade sides of the bed with hubby. I would go for a designer fan something quirky and large, it's a bedroom why not!!

vin,,,ok, i'm a moron, apparently. I had my husband turn the fan and even asked him. we both just looked at it like buffoons. had to bring a clock up underneath it to see. it honestly still looks like CW, but after he pointed out both, I could finally see it! my bad!
