That’s just what panel ready looks like. Either get over it or buy a fully integrated refrigerator. Your issue is why not to buy panel ready.

That's why we bought a panel-ready SubZero that allows you to recess it so that it is completely flush. This requires deeper cabinets (that's what we were doing anyway) or it requires a recessed back wall. But it IMHO looks really nice.

I like that our refrigerator doesn't just look like an oversized cabinet. But it also doesn't look like an appliance that has been squeezed in after the fact.

Unfortunately, not all brands can be recessed like this. It depends on how the hinges are built. And of course, if you don't plan for this case, then you simply won't have the space to recess the counter-depth fridge. In that case, stainless steel doors probably look better than panels that stick out into the kitchen. You might still be able to fix this. Manufacturers sometimes sell the steel panels separately. Of course, that won't be cheap :-(
