Aren't these also called Organ Pipe Cactus?

No,that's a big native,Stenocereus or the other commonly sold and also called organ pipe is Pachycereus marginatus..the one used as fencing in Mexico.

This isn't a very good looking plant..sort of an ugly shade of green,no special form. But it's everywhere. I take that its hardy to cold and rains.

I think that is a very nice looking plant. Your blue one must be amazing.

It's no large clump. I planted it there about 4 years ago from a rootless cutting. It's not quite as colorful in this cloudy today photo as it is on a sunny day. I think you see the hint of blue. I'm pretty sure it's just a sport of T. pachanoi.

Are you sure it isn't another species of cactus, bearing in mind it is a different colour and longer spines?

I once looked over the internet and there are forms that have..are long spined and bluegreen.

If it's not T. pachanoi, what else is it? Its NOT a large columnar cactus like the various Cereus seen in the bay area. I saw these in large clumps where I got the cutting. Maybe 6' tall and wide dark green clumps.

That was in 1994 or so. My memory remembers it not confused with plenty common C. peruvianus or C. repandus. But they all seem equal hardy.

I'm open to any ideas!

Stan, go to Cactiguide.com and check out the selections for Pachycereus. I can't tell how spiney your Ceroid is. There are quite a few bluish cacti with long spines to look at. Maybe one you will recognize.

I can't figure out why you haven't Hand weeded around the little cactus in the middle.

Its a tough grass Aloebot. Its brown now because I had to use Roundup. Its I think, South African Veldt grass. I got it from UC Berkeley BG I believe. Its tenacious..famous for when you pull it up,a good chance the plant its under will also get yanked. It really gets in their root area.

That whole area is getting spring spruced. That cactus is a remnant from something family friends collected in Arizona in the 1960's. I was a kid when they were in their 70's at the time..so that plant has been in "pots"..(any old container even leaky buckets)..spread around cuttings to various family members.

A few years ago it was near death from total lack of water while home repairs blocked my watering it in summer.

So,even as I have little room..I try to get them in the ground before I lose them.

Here's a pic of the Mango fronting the Cactus. With a Dioon edule planted from seed in 1978. I am second owner. Just want to show I'm still spring cleaning,removing,transplanting things all over the place. I'm going to need an extra shot of Geritol at this rate.

The D. edule coned last year. I had to remove old fronds and kept the fewer leaves of a cone year flush.

Stan I still have about 1/2 of an acre of weeds to deal with. I bought a gas powered weed eater so now I am less depressed. I should be done about July. What color are the flowers on your cylindropuntia?

I dont think I've ever seen it flower come to think of it. Or it did,and I just don't remember.

I know that Frank and May ( what better names for old folks huh?) had traveled in a little airstream back then..I still have some Petrified rocks they gave me..Arizona Highways books. They passed long ago.
