Rare yazoo mower

So I was given a S22B yazoo mower. It still works just needs a few things. The guy that gave it to me said the mower is very old but I can’t find anything on it. The Serial number is 39-S-22-B. I have only been able to fine owner manuals And parts for it. Does anyone know how much they go for or just anything about it.

Yazoo was a popular heavy duty mower in the sixties and seventies. Horizontal Briggs using a twist belt to drive the blade. High Wheel design made it easy navigate rough terrain. They went on to make riding mowers and other designs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKi2o1oNgp8

So the saying "up the Yazoo" came about after WW2 when the returning soldiers discovered that when they were gone, the wives had forgotten how to cook. Burnt steaks, under cooked chicken. It was bad! So to make them tow the line, they told the women they would be run up the Yazoo- or run down by the mower if they didn't get dinner aced and on time. Seeing as though your mower is a 2B, that's better than a not 2B.

Prolly not lots of value. Is there a mower museum somewhere? They show up on the EBay once in a while.

hi, i'm going to have agree with TP, not much value. you'd have to find the right person that needs one of these to maybe complete a mower? funny, I can't even find a picture of this mower?

The mower I have still runs like a charm. I is a very hard mower to find. The only things I was able to find on it was the owners manual.

The one I owned had a vertical shaft B&S engine with an aux PTO shaft out of the side of the engine block. The crank shaft drove the blade and the PTO drove the belt and chain drive system. The drive systems were nothing but problems on those mowers. Sorry, but I would not give you a dollar for one even as a collector item.

The State of Illinois used a lot of Yazoo mowers to mow small road side areas, Island type areas too small for tractor mowers. These were an early type zero turn mower with deck out front, engine and works in the middle and operator out back.

Tomplum may be right about the name but I think it came from the operator sitting over the single rear wheel which did the steering and when you made a 180 degree turn you went for a Tilt-a-whirl type ride with out the tilt thus you felt like yelling YAZOO!!

The name came from the town of Yazoo Mississippi where the mowers were first built.

My father in law had one and I tried it one time. It had large inflatable bike style tire on rear and just seemed flimsy and frail. Did not mow very good either.
