In A, how will you get into the tub/shower, from the short end?

Option B. More countertop space, more storage underneath, larger windows, toilet tucked away, and more closet space. Also the bath is further from the bed if one person is sleeping and one getting ready. There is nothing better about option A.

I will have all the clothes in the closet. No dresser outside of it. The folded door is a linen closet eith access from the hallway.

These are great ideas! Any comment on why you didn’t like option B?

I prefer bathroom closer to bed.

There is no need for a pocket door to conserve space. Simply have the door swing the other way. Pocket door rollers make noise (important in the middle of the night) and are fiddly to latch. They are a solution of last resort.

I'm with calidesign--B is better.

B may give you an option to put the bed across from the window, then you could have a bigger chest for the tv where the bed is now shown.

I like A with Flo's idea, but maybe "flip" it so that the door is closer to the foot of the bed, than to the middle or the head. Here's why: When you are sitting up in bed, reading, talking, watching tv (because you are showing a tv in the sketch), you don't want to be looking into the bathroom.

So many great ideas! Really liked ideacor option to possibly change the bed to the other wall, although the bed would be closer to the door... I like Flo’s plan but would love to keep a linen closet outside so other people can access it without going to my bedroom. All possible options.. I am creating new floorplans based on your comments!!

You might be able to do both. One off hall into master closet space and one in ensuite bath. Not a big deal.

I would leave the bed on its current wall. It's bad feng shui for one person to have their back to the door while in bed.

There are many on GW who don't like pocket doors. I'm NOT one of them! If they are done right, they're great! One needs a very heavy, solid wood door for privacy. The woodwork slot into which the leading edge of the door fits when closed, needs to be deep - far deeper than is typical here in the US. When it is, the fit is good and the door is as sound-proof as a normal hinge-hung door.

I learned this 2 years ago while renting a very high end house in London for a week. I have pocket doors in my own house - 4 to be exact. I have no problem with them except they don't close quite as closely as I would prefer. When I looked at the pocket door to the bathroom in London, I could quickly see why it worked so well - a deep "pocket" for it to close into. It made no noise at all while being closed. I have a feeling that all pocket door hardware is not created equal! The top quality hardware will be quiet and seamless. This is not the place to save a bit of money.

Anglophilia. My experience exactly. Lived in Brussels Belgium and their “pocket doors” are great. It is the cheap, pre-fab ones that are not good. Done right the are great and do save wall space.

I have a solid core pocket door that goes into my master bath and I agree that, if done correctly, they are no different than a swing door. Mine recesses into the space where it closes as well and works perfectly well.

"B" has a better bath plan with more usable space.

Since your bedroom windows/sliding door faces west, buy the best sun blocking drapes or screens you can find. Otherwise the glare will blind you and the heat gain will roast you! :-)

Thanks Vigil, that’s a great point. Especially my husband likes no light coming in while in bed.

I made a floorplan with Flo’s suggestion and added a linen closet on the top right that will be opened from the outside of the room. This plan will give more space in front of the vanity than B but will be 2’ less countertop space. Decisions!!
