Googled under children's desk category? Something like this, which is 29 wide, 18 deep, and pretty darn perfect ? ! ?? You'll have room for a cube ottoman beneath. A pretty lamp and a mirror above. You need an outlet added for lamp : ) in your spot

Why don’t you find a small chest of drawers. You would have extra storage and a surface for keys. I love shopping at consignment stores for something with patina.

I was going to suggest tables like Jan posted. A chest would be too heavy and close in the area, making it more tunnel like. Corinne, I don't care for the floating shelves either. The location, L--shaped area.

The shelf thing? Uh,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,no. And you will have a more difficult time fining a great lamp to sit on it unless you make it 16 x 30. Then the dingle dangle of lamp cord..........Nope! I'm with hubby. Sorry!

I think those suggested look great and will work great for you. In answer to your question about not liking the idea of shelves, my thought is that they are kind of neither here nor there and need some grounding. I think if it was in a less "vulnerable" location, just floating shelves might work but you need function here and people are going to be using the space and walking by all the time. That's why I think the shelves won't be the best.

I like some of Jan's suggestions, and if you want others, search for side tables, end tables, and night tables.

For me a floating shelf would look odd in a corner, as allison mentions, and also be limiting. With a small table, if you decide you ever want to put anything else in the space, just move the table.

I might look for some nightstand tables or end tables with a single drawer. The nook is deep enough to accommodate one and you can easily find one that is 24" wide. I'd also suggest adding a mirror above it to finish off the space. A few ideas:

loving your LR...my thought was a night stand or end table would be too low too...I think you need the height of a sofa table in that space.

Night stands and end tables come in a variety of heights, esp the former now since mattresses are so much thicker than before. You can always "raise" the height by setting a large coffee table book on top

I had a similar tiny house and we used a bakers rack. Gave us a surface, some storage and hooks for the keys.

I’m not usually a fan of corner tables, but if you could fit greener like a palm beside it, what do you think of something like these? Just more options to consider. Although I do think your best bet for practicality and style is the first one Jan Moyer presented so that you can put a small cub for sitting underneath.

Unfortunately we cannot use greenery. One of our cats ate the entire pygmy date palm in my photo & cost us $5,000 in vet bills

Do hall trees fall under your coat rack moratorium? If not, take a look at some smaller lightweight modern or contemporary ones. Since hall trees are endemic to the foyer, its presence will strongly signify that the area in which it's placed is intended to act as the foyer in your house.

Otherwise I think a leggy console table with a vase on it would work.

Here’s what I did with a similar corner. Custom Room and board table the very one suggested above so I could maximize the space and the stool is from wayfair.

Cerileen I think I might have to go the custom route only because it may be (ironically) cheaper than the small readymade options. I actually think I saw some potential on Etsy. Planning to look later during my nightly obsessive Instagram binge.

I went through the same thing EXACTLY.

Yeah I wanted to maximize my space with a leggy look like you mentioned to keep it airy. Maybe you prefer wood? Otherwise the room and board has different tops and different colored metals for the frames. It’s made in the USA too. A single drawer would have been nice but I gave up on that. I also knew this would be high quality vs the other similar case goods where reviews complained of the tables rocking / not level, etc.

Also like you, I obsessed nightly, adjusting size parameters on Perigold, Wayfair, OKL, and Overstock.

Also like you, I insisted on incorporating a spot to sit on for guests who would have trouble taking off shoes standing up. The stools were either garden stools (not very senior citizen friendly) or vanity stools that looked like they belonged int e bathroom or something more artsy than functional. More size parameter adjusting on the usual suspects. Most hall tables were way too long or way too short.

A small tray would catch your keys.
