My first reaction was that tile is so much more practical than hardwood inside an exterior entrance. When I read your options, it all sounded exhausting until I saw option 4 and I thought 'that's the solution!' BUT then I saw the photos and I realized maybe you don't like the tile pattern you have. If you could happily live with it, through the kitchen redo and after, but just want a refresh, then why not try a test with a different color grout simulation, and see what you think? For example, cut some strips of paper that is the color you want to the width of the grout joint and lay them in place. Then stand back and check it out. Much easier to do (and undo) than actually grouting a test area! You could try this with a couple of different colors.

This is why the lord made nice bullet proof walk off mats. The first........in the garage and changed out frequently, and the second just inside the garage door to the house . After that? Michigan, NY , Ohio........it's all the same lol. And muck is an easily dealt with fact of life. The entire first floor as hardwood ABOUNDS in every single state and I left out Pa. , Mass, NH, and Vermont?

Pick a hardwood that you like and make sure it has a durable finish like Bona Traffic. Use floor mats at the entrance and you will be fine. I suggest White Oak as an option. It can be stained any number of custom colors and is very versatile.

Nothing has more "character" than real wood. Nothing, and no tile, will ever imitate something that lasts in a home for a century. More character is not needed. Add lovely rugs, furnishings art. . : ) No need to reinvent the base for all of that, a good medium deep stain on white oak will outlive you for many years.

Why do you think some genius came up with "wood look tile ? Yeah...................................and not the same is it? No. But Floridians are happier for it,

I agree hardwood everywhere. Get Chiliwich mats for out side the door and a good sized rug inside that is made for entry that and the wood floor will add all the character you need in that entry.Get enough of the wood to do the whole kitchen later at the same time.

I love the look of polished tile I am getting 24x24 marble look Tile with gray and greige veining put in on Monday my foyer..halls..kitchen andthe powder room and laundry will have 12x24 version of the same floors in a diff pattern and 4 of my bathrooms will also have a mix of the same tile for flow and consistency ..everywhere else is Greige color luxury Vinyl floor we put in because the kids and the dog I love the look of a Grabd entry Do what your heart desires ❤️ Here is a photo that inspired me to do the 24x24 and the 12x24
