While they are separate, is there any way to ensure they stay connected to each other in position. I am concerned about them moving away from each other and creating a gap.

Hi Akale, each unit has a considerable weight to them. We have not had any client encounter this issue, but perhaps you can use foot pads to help keep them from separating. Thanks!
