Short and spreading roses

Anyone have low and draping roses they want to share about?

I really like the Faun.

    Totoro,

I saw the title and immediately thought of my Faun. So no new help there! I love mine so much I want to order a few more. I find she is a competently no fuss rose here in 7B and I don’t spray her.

i am curious to see what everyone else might mention.

Sweet pegge is small and has lax canes for me. I have her in a planter, and the spill out.

Hi! I'm new here (was lurking before). I also grow and love The Faun. My Sweet Chariot is in a hanging basket but it's short and spreading. Also Petal Pusher and Borderer are staying small and spreading.

The Faun is so pretty! Just added ‘Seafoam’ to my garden, so no personal experience yet, but we were able to see it in a local botanical garden. It was lovely! Low and spreading, without laying on the ground, healthy foliage, loaded with blooms. I’ve heard it’s excellent for cascading down a walls.

Sweet Drift is nice... I wouldn't mind that..

...'Scarborough Fair' is one of the very best Austin roses for continuous bloom.. for me it's about 3.5 feet high by 5-6 foot wide...

Lol! I did exactly the same thing, Rosie. I read the title and thought, I’ve GOT to recommend ‘The Faun’. Great rose, isn’t it?

Totoro, my Mrs. William G Koning is rather low and draping, but that might be because she’s in a pot. Lisa

Red Drift and Pink Drift.... perfect for a low spot. Mine are on bed on a short incline and seem to work their way down the hill. Very bloomy, but little discernible fragrance. I'm debating on growing Red Cascade in a similar manner.

What lovely photos, everyone. Dianela, you are a rose grower supreme, and I love the look and bloom production of your roses.

I notice that some Drift roses have been mentioned, and I might add, Apricot Drift, which spreads nicely without becoming a "vine", and remains nice and full. Diane

    Thanks for sharing, everone.

Looks like Drift roses perform well. WGK is really charming. SF is so pretty, have not heard or seen much about that rose.

Does anyone have a photo of their Petal Pushers?

i have been looking to get the Faun but can't find any online nursery offer that rose. I saw Petal Pushers offered by Jackson and Perkins but it's sold out. If anyone here can tell me where to get the Faun, I really appreciate. Thanks.

Thank you Diane. I been giving them lots of cow manure early which I am pretty sure I learned from you =).

Your are too modest, Dianela. I do love manure, and also compost with chicken manure in it (only for the spoiled roses). Whatever you're doing, you're doing it well! Diane

I adore your roses Pat and the little bird is adorable!!!! Can't wait until my Lindee sprawls a bit. She's really puttting on a show here in her first spring. Probably one of my favourite new ones from last year. I could use a few more of her.

Thanks, vaporvac! Lindee is a great little rose...you're going to love her!

Marlorena Scarborough fair is so pretty. I had never seen this Austin before and I will look it up. Austin’s that stay small seem to be rare around here and would be great from the front of the border instead of having to prune them hard all the time.

Lisa I love that Little cute Mrs. William G K. I had never seen it before. How is her health? I am spraying but trying to add some healthier roses that don’t require as much spraying.

Wow thank you Pat. Those roses are lovely. I particularly love the Blue Mist. How is your garden doing this year, we are getting pretty warm already in our part of the country (Over 90 today). I was hopping to set up some sort of irrigation system but it hasn’t happened and specially the pots are having a hard time.

Totoro I realized I don‘t have a good picture of Petal pushers. I do have one and I’ll share it. This rose was planted as a band last year and it is competing with a bunch of sweet mint, irises and it is doing very well so far.

Thanks everyone! Lots of photos of roses I had not seen before.

I should add White Meidiland which does really well for me here in humid Z6 and also for Ingrid in SCal if I recall correctly. I think Christian J may fall into this category, but it's too soon to tell.

    Totoro,

I am transitioning all my miniature roses that edge the front of my rose bed, with Apricot and Sweet Drift. I like their flower forms the best of all the 7 or so varieties in the Drift Series. I started with just one Drift Rose last year, Apricot Drift, to observe its characteristics. It exceeded my expectations.

What a great little rose. It is essentially black spot free, unlike the unbelievably poor black spot resistance of the old minis. Actually, the Drifts are minis, just different from those wimpy older varieties, disease prone remnants of the mini craze of the 1990's. Drifts are extremely bushy, disease warrior's, and abundant blooming. There's also a moderate fragrance, to my nose, with Apricot Drift, about a 5.5 out of 10.

The Sunblaze Series of miniature roses looks tempting, however the press on them speaks not a word about disease resistance, which is a big red flag to me. I have seen them in the nurseries. They seem to have more abundant flowers than the Drifts, are more upright, not spreading, and quite compact (a nursery for black spot...poor air circulation, warm & moist, environment...if they have no breeding against it). I suspect black spot will be an issue with them. Baby Paradise Sunblaze does peak my interest, though.

All in all, Sunblaze looks tempting, though. But, I already have 6 Apricot Drifts to plant, so I will put the Sunblaze Series on the back burner for now. I need to know more about them.

BTW, My niece has a number of The Faun roses. They are great, but can spread a lot. The Fairy is in The Faun's pedigree, so some of the same growth habits got inherited.

I have Sunblaze Red and it is not a draping rose. Very upright, however I have only had it for a year, so it is still a baby.

My favorite draping rose at the moment is Vineyard Song aka Bunch of Grapes. I don't have a good picture of it as it too is a baby and less than a year old. Great plant. Pretty flowers. Scented too! I only planted it out of its pot and into the garden about two months ago. It has taken off since then. I think it is going to be a good rose for my garden.

I love Apricot Drift and grow 7 or 8 of them. They spread a little, but stay nice and mounded--very think and healthy looking. Diane

My Little White Pet is a spreading rose. Very healthy and blooms all the time. Great rose.

Great suggestions, everyone! Vineyard Song is really cute. Reminds me of Margo Koster blooms but prettier color.

vapor, you're so right, White Meidiland has been very good for me. Another lovely one is International Herald Tribune and Lavender Mist (which is the same rose that's also called Blue Mist (see pat_bama's post above).

Yesterday, Lilyfinch posted a fabulous picture of Lavender Mist from her local rose garden. VERY impressive. It wasn't even on my radar! https://www.gardenweb.com/discussions/5705683/roses-for-the-front-of-new-house#n=30
