bar soffit design

I'm creating a basement bar and am running into some design roadblocks. All of my pictures are at the bottom of this post. First picture here is of the bar from the top down view. It's a relatively basic L-shaped bar. I will have strip lighting running the track on both sides of the soffit to create a shadow-lighting effect like the second picture below. The third picture is a cross-section of looking down the left side of the bar. I'm working with a 9' ceiling. The soffit will run along the same path as the bar top. The soffit is where I'll focus this post.

Anyone have any ideas on the dimensions related to this soffit? Specifically:

Distance from ceiling to bottom of soffit.
Width of the "track" where the strip lighting is.
Height of the side of the soffit.

This house has a backyard pool off of the bar so it's a unique usage case. Re-reading my question, you're right. I do care what others think as this is the first time I've done this. If this doesn't interest you, you can stop replying to this post.

You can figure that out just as easily as we can honestly I have better things to do with my day than sit down and figure proportions out.Strat with the bar being counter height is my guess and take it from there.

I'm not asking for the dimensions of my drawing or the picture. I kind of backed into that which is how my drawing came to be. I'm asking for best practices or what people see being built out in the field.

Im sorry I have no idea . Why do you care what others are doingdo what you like. Where I live hardly anyone has a bar in the basement anymore they found them really never used as you think they will be.You did ask for dimensions so that is what I answered.

Gotta love houzz...’I have better things to do...like telling to OP to f*** off for even asking.’ Bet her clients loooooove her. In regards to the dimensions- you inspo picture- id guess maybe 18-24” for the drop from the ceiling and maybe 6-8” for the setback for the strip lighting. But I would also guess that the room as at least ten foot ceilings. How high are the ceilings in your basement? If you drop a 24” soffit with 8 foot ceilings you’ll really close off the bar from the rest of the room.

I have 9 foot ceilings. I am thinking about a 12 inch soffit right now. But just wanted to see if anyone else had any opinions on that. I think the soffit size I have in the picture is too big for the space.

It might be a good idea to go old-school. Get a hold of a roll of craft paper. tear off a 9 foot length. Mark a line across where your counter height will be. Make another line 12" from the top where the soffit will end and see if it looks in proportion to you.
