Gosh, I feel so sorry for everyone who's so hot so soon. Here it's been getting pretty warm at mid-day, but the humidity is low and there's a breeze so it's very pleasant out of the sun. According to the local forecast we're not supposed to hit 90 till around June 1st.

99 today with a heat index of 103. Up to 100 for the next four days. Tuesday should see showers, but back up to 100 on Wednesday. I guess that's an improvement. It was calling for 102 on Tuesday a few days ago. Heat indexes from 106 to 109.

hot and dry, weatherman said no rain until June. All my recent plantings are requiring twice daily misting or they wilt. Not gonna be a nice summer.

Keep those water containers filled for the critters.

Just like yours DG - too hot

Went out to water this morning, and was sweating like crazy by 10:00. Worked a little in the shade, and it was already 86F by 11.00. Up to 92 already.

I'll likely have to mist this afternoon. Things are already wilting.

Horrid it was like 100F today. My Ameraucana mix hens thought they were gonna have a heatstroke. I let them play in the hose. I will have to get them a watermelon.

I only watered half my plants today. Im having predator problems w my chickens again. Why does everything like to eat chicken?

It has been 100 degrees every day for the past few days. My hens are walking around with their wings down to keep cool. I gave them a big shallow pan full of water. They get in it and lay in the water!

Lol. Yeah I feel bad for them. Some act like they dont care that much and some really suffer when its hot. Mine wont get in a pan of water but like to dig in the mud and kinda wade around in it. I never thought I would say this because I dislike the humidity, but I hope it starts raining soon and cools it off a little.

I have muscovy female ducks. They have been enjoying extra dips in the water.

I had to double check this. It's still 91F at 10:13 pm. The forecast was 82F at this time of night. I don't think I've ever seen this happen.

I almost bought a wading pool for the animals, but I know the Muscovy ducks would just poop all in it, so nope.

This is because of the high pressure system that has parked itself over the Carolinas. It's expected to move and bring relief next weekend. I have been doing the best I can with hand watering since we only have one watering day a week here. The Bahia grass has big patches of dead grass but when it starts raining it will come back, it always does. Dirty, all lizards need is some water droplets on a surface to lick up, no need for bodies of water. But for other things, if you find that a bird bath is too pricey or heavy to manage I made one out of one of those plastic plant urns. I turn it upside down so that the wider top is on the bottom for stability then I place a plastic plant pot saucer on the top and voila! I have a piece of cement block in the saucer to prevent it from tipping over easily. The urns are sold everywhere, Big Lots usually has them cheaper but their website is down. Plastic Urn

It was 102 yesterday. A lot of my seedlings, younger plants and plants with large leaves are getting damage, even the ones in the shade. It was still 91 at 10:30 last night. I didn't believe it, so I walked outside and the heat hit me like opening a sauna.

Forecast is for temps 94 & above for the next 13 days, and no sign of rain. I'm afraid some of my seedlings won't make it. I need to find a way to create some shade somehow. They get so stretchy if I bring them inside. I'll get out early tomorrow and see what I can do. I have some old long PVC pipes and some landscape cloth. That should work for awhile.

Rita - I'm going to try to figure something out. I have three of those plastic meat trays (the deeper, hard plastic ones) with rocks in them already out. I'm not too worried about the birds, because there is an aerated pond next door. I'm more worried about my squirrels, but they seem to be o.k. I may set up a sprinkler tomorrow really early for them to get a shower.

It was so unbearable hot yesterday. Yard work is not going to happen to hot. I will water in the morning and evening. But real work will have to wait.

If you get a wading pool, get the tiniest one. They are easier to dump and rinse. My plants love duck water lol. They really go bazerk.

I wish we would at least get a good breeze, at least enough to dry the sweat lol.

Right now I wished I lived close to the beach for the nice breezes...hmm which of course, makes me immediately think of hurricanes :/ I wonder what disasters Ma Nature has in store for us this year?

I found some cool plastic oil drainage pans at the Dollar Tree. They are wide and shallow. Good to use for plant saucers, mini plant bogs, or put rocks and water for animals etc. I got them to plant dwarf lotus tubers but ended up using something a little deeper.

Glenn, I try to get one thing done a day. I transplanted some things into a larger container yesterday, but I'm going to have to bring them into the apt. today because it's just too hot for them. Anything but well-established plants are suffering, and even some of them are getting badly burned leaves.

Sultry, that's a good suggestion! I'll look for them next time I go.

IT'S RAINING! Very unexpected and not forecast. It did say maybe a shower tomorrow, but this is a real thunderstorm. My plants look so happy right now. If it wasn't 87 degrees, I'd open some windows.

97F yesterday and today. Wish the little red dot of thunderstorms could have made it down this way and cooled us off as well.

Somewhere between 97 & 99 today, depending on whether you check Accuweather or Wunderground. Their stations are at different places, though. Accuweather is at the airport, so it has a higher temp because of a lack of trees. I just know it's hot as Haedes.

The sun is so strong that I had to cover up some of my shade plants to protect the leaves, because they aren't in full shade. Usually, they're fine, but some were burning. I rigged a sheet up over them.

The sun was actually bleaching my sun-loving neo bromeliad, so I had to put it in a shadier spot too. It usually is fine out there in the sun all summer, but this sun is something else!

I'm going to figure out how to put up some kind of shade covering, because my tropicals are getting sun scalded in the shadiest place I've got.
