These are pictures of the kitchen cleaned up apposed to the other pictures. We were originally going to get a new kitchen but due to circumstances we have to put it on hold for a while.

Hi Shondelle I would suggest the cupboard next to the stove needs to be the same colour as the others as a start. Also I would paint those shelves the same colour as the cabinets.
I would also think the wall and cupbaords should be different colour. Eg if you want white cabinets, paint the wall another colour or if you want white walls go for coloured cabinets.
Because you are looking at a short-term fix you could be a bit more daring than if you are going for a new kitchen.
Your kitchen is actually similar to mine.

If I was to keep the walls white, what is a good colour for the cabinets?

I think a new widow treatment would really enhance the space. Maybe faux wood or a roman shade? Also painting the walls a light blue or grey would help the cabinets pop without darkening the space much.
