Yes - it's probably a canna. But I don't know how you can tell yet which particular variety. Another thing I notice is the leaves are streaked, have brown sections and are puckered, as though it is virused or has sucking pests like mites on it. If viruses are a recurring problem with cannas - I have no idea if this is the case or not - maybe that is why this specimen was discarded.

It's a canna, but probably not Bengal Tiger. The striping isn't distinct enough. You may have to wait till it blooms for a proper ID.

The "striping" is so indistinct at this point I saw it as pathogen or pest related rather than a genetically determined feature that is supposed to be an attribute of a particular cultivar. All the more so because there is also browning and puckering present.

Well I’m going to put it in the garden and give it proper canna care. I figured it was discarded for a pest or disease issue but I’ve seen no signs of pests. It could have been neglect also. Time will tell.

The striping is more distinctive in person. It’s definitely a genetic trait of this cultivar.

Assuming it's 'Bengal Tiger'. Which it has already been stated it doesn't look like, photo or no photo.

Regarding the pest question the leaf to the left in the second shot looks like it has white bug stuff on it. Maybe left there by beneficial spiders, maybe left there by something that is feeding on the plant - look at the plant with a magnifier before you decide it isn't hosting tiny little guests.

if its been in the house ... then you have to harden it off to the full sun.. it would prefer ...

also .... lack of light.. indoors.. MIGHT impact coloration ... variegation might increase once it gets proper light levels ...
