Whatever possessed you to do that? Dig it out from around the sign and have a professional put in a planter with some pretty plants. Can you keep them alive?

It's clean, fresh, and you don't have to mow. So there's that. Planter? Hardy shrubs?

Did you put a couple of layers of weed cloth on the area before adding the rocks? If the rock layer is deep enough, you may not have a lot of weeds, but weed cloth would have suppressed weeds, too.
I know the idea was to put in something neat and clean, with little or no maintenance. To make it look a bit more interesting, you could add a big boulder.

A circular planter around the pole with some hardy shrubs suited for both your area and a above ground planter will give you a more pleasant yet low maintenance area. But I like the idea of the boulder suggested above, and I would add a single plant that is 1/3 the size of the boulder right next to it. Agave, or something really hardy and slow growing is a possibility. Not one of those Alberta Spruce but something softer with multiple sections.

I did put down weed barrier. The idea was to keep it low maintenance. I like the planter idea...would modern rectangular plants look nice? If so what color??

It looks like driveway gravel. You have dull blacktop, dull concrete and now dull gray rocks.

I spent 2 years digging out rock that was installed over weed barrier. They ate their way through it. That area looks like rip-rap and isn't enhancing your business. Get busy with planters and add a matching one under the front windows to unify the appearance so it doesn't look like a bandaid over the rock.

Your neighbours building is ugly and the chain link fence looks institutional. What about changing at least the 20’ closest to the road to a wood fence with shrubs planted by the rock area and signage/visual advertising from one of your sunglass/frame suppliers?

Why not some large corten steel planters rectangular in shape planted with something that will require little water and look good in the winter. The planters rust naturally and would add some interest

The area is approx 40 ft long by 15 ft wide that is filled with the rock. How many planters would you place? Would three 48" rectangular ones suffice? with a small one in each window box tie it together. I hate to remove all the rock if at all possible, it was 10 tens at about 1000 dollars!
