Is there room along the lot lines to plant tall narrow trees such as Arborvitae or Italian cypress? If not trees, a second possibility is a series of utility poles lined up to become a trellis (if allowed). 3rd is either of these screening possibilities off of the house corners. Last is screening at the edge of the deck itself.

You only use this when necessary. A minimal solution to a temporary problem.

Thanks @yardvaark - very helpful. Yes, there’s room along the lot lines to plant tall trees - we will definitely plan on doing that. I like the idea of privacy screens on the deck itself. However, we are using MoistureShield deck material and I’m not sure if this can also be used for screening or if we’d have to get a different material for the sides. The back facing railing will be cords.

If you use architectural screening at the deck, no problem. If you grow vines on lattice at the deck, use caution in what type of vine. Some want to be thickly bushy.
